Feb. 16th, 2004 03:14 pmThis morning, I was looking at the blog of a friend who is a very good writer, and who uses his blog as a sort of political column. Intelligent stuff. Reading it made me think of a professor I had in grad school, a brilliant guy who's one of the clearest thinkers I know, and who taught me a lot about the real nature of objectivity and fair coverage. His name is David Brudnoy. He's been open for a long time about being gay, HIV+, and living with AIDS. Now he also has cancer. I read an article about him today online from January. He was apparently near death around Christmas, but is since doing better. He is even planning on resuming teaching duties at BU in the not-too-distant future. I'm really, really glad about this. He was probably the best teacher I had there. I'd hate to think of future BU Comm students unable to participate in the challenging, maddening, fascinating class he taught to my fellow students and me. I hope he keeps getting better and stronger, even though I know that can't last forever. It'll be a sad day for Boston radio and for the world when he leaves it.
