Connecting
May. 7th, 2007 01:03 pmI e-mailed those folks from my high school graduating class who I'm still semi-in touch with, to see if they'd heard anything regarding reunion plans for us this year. I got an e-mail back from each of them, including my best friend from high school. Apparently, she's now living in DC and making her living as a rocket scientist. And she's an OBOD member. Pretty cool. :)
Sadly, she doesn't think she'll be coming up for the reunion if it's in the fall (which is likely), but she WILL be coming to Boston during the first week of June. I'm actually pretty psyched to meet up and say hi. It seems like enough time has past that it feels like RE-connecting, instead of making another haphazard attempt to STAY connected. We never had a falling out or anything, we just sort of went our separate ways after college, when friendships and connections in our local areas took priority and our trips back to the hometown became less frequent. I don't think I've seen her since I was in grad school.
So for the past few years, attempts to get in touch have felt a little awkward, like, "Um, hi, I know I haven't written in a YEAR, but how's life?" Now, though, having had so much time gone by, it seems like a nice opportunity to say hello. We always have had a lot in common, and I doubt that's changed much.
Even if she won't be at the reunion, whenever it is, I'm curious enough to know what's happened to everyone else! Hell, it's been ten years. That's a long time in my life.
