Wow, what a beautiful day. Yesterday was, too. It's a good thing--60 degrees and misty might be a treat near the end of summer when you're sick of the heat, but right now, it's depressing.

I went down to Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon to visit my parents. I hopped on the red line with plenty of time to spare to get to South Station, or so I thought. When we got to Kendall, though, they announced that due to construction, they'd be shuttling us from Kendall to Park Street. Sonofabitch. Shuttle buses in downtown Boston are maddeningly slow. As it turned out, I arrived at Park Street just about the time my commuter rail train was leaving South Station. Grrrrrrrr. Anyway, I turned a negative into a positive. I knew that there was at least an hour to go until the next Attleboro-bound train, so I stopped in at Windsor Button. I bought some new GORGEOUS sock yarn and a pack of sock needles (yeah, I already had some, but not WITH me). Then I headed out to South Station in plenty of time for the next train.

Saturday afternoon and evening, I spent talking to my parents and just generally enjoying the outdoor greenery that comes with suburbia. Every time I visit my parents, their place looks more and more beautiful. If you'd seen it when we moved in there 17 years ago, you wouldn't recognize it now. We had barbecue (lamb for the 'rents, chicken for me) and then settled down to watch a couple movies--Ice Age: The Meltdown, which was hilarious, and The Fountain(finally!), which was beautiful and mysterious.

Sunday, after breakfast and some knitting, my father and I went to visit my Memere and Pepere. It was nice to see them. I have to smile when I hear my Pepere talk, remembering the time he called me in my dorm room in my freshman year, and my roommate who answered the phone couldn't understand a word he said except "Laura". Yeah, the thick French-Canadian accent and the motormouth tendencies make him a bit hard for non-relatives to comprehend. :)

We left there and came back to the parental abode, where we started planning that night's dinner. It ended up being two kinds of grilled shrimp (my Mexican citrus-cilantro marinated kind, and my sister's southwestern spice rubbed kind) with corn on the cob for the carb-eaters, salad, and white wine. I had saved up a LOT of points, and was able to have two glasses of wine and a beer with dinner. Yum! I still have a lot saved, in fact.

Tonight I have dance, and I may end up getting something a little heartier than usual for dinner to use up some of those extra points. Tomorrow, I will be baking mole-ass (molasses) cookies, to be sent to Fort Lewis on Wednesday along with a few odds and ends my boy needs.

I got a lot of sleep this weekend. I needed it.
