Chapter VII, in which Our Heroine visits the dentist

So I went in today for my first dental checkup in *mumblemumble*. It was a good experience. I like this dentist: she's friendly, pragmatic, and nonjudgmental. She told me that my teeth look great for the most part--clean, no cavities, generally good gum condition. She also said that the damage to that one area of my gums on the back of my bottom front teeth may not be due entirely to the tongue ring. She said I have an abnormally high lingual frenum (that little thing that connects the underside of your tongue to the bottom of your mouth), and it's likely that pulls on the gum tissue in that spot, causing it to recede. I've been told that once before. In fact, it's the reason why my tongue ring was so far forward on my tongue to begin with. She suggested I might want to make an appointment for a consultation with the gum specialist to chat about that, so I did. I also made an appointment for a cleaning. The consultation is going to be this Thursday at 9:15am. Oy. There goes my day. An appointment that early in the morning means a long day with no other break when I can't leave early. Meh. But it was either that or wait a month, and I want to get this over with. I might end up getting a frenectomy, where they remove a bit of that lingual frenum. According to the dentist, that would probably give me a greater range of motion with my tongue. Hehehehe. *snicker* That wouldn't be a bad way of making up for losing the tongue ring! Anyway, I can see what she means: I feel the pulling when I move my tongue to the end of its range of motion, and while it's not painful, it's slightly uncomfortable.

In other news, there was some sort of event upstairs, and that office brought down some of their pizza and salad leftovers. I had some of the salad. Yum. It had a little parmesan on top, but not much. I probably had maybe 1/2 tsp. No points. Tasty.

Tonight shall be laundry night. I will almost certainly bring my chair outside the laundromat because of the heat in there. I will definitely be eating a tofu dog and salad at Spike's. I will knit. This will be nice.
