pierceheart's promotion ceremony on board the Constitution. It was good to see his family again, and to watch him get pinned on and swear in again. I'm so proud of him. :) We had a gorgeous day. I took quite a few pics which I have uploaded to my computer, but not yet to my Flickr account, so I can't share now. After the ceremony, we all hit Finagle A Bagel for coffee, then went back to the naval yard to go through the museum there. It was pretty cool. In the gift shop, I stealth-purchased a book on sea chanties for pierceheart, because how could I not? I gave it to him, along with a bottle of Peat Monster scotch, at the reception at Redbones. miss_lisa_ma took care of getting a nice carrot cake, and the reception went very well. The people at Redbones were SOOO nice to us, considering what a big, loud party we were. While we were eating, who should show up but giffinjo, who was shortly joined by two people, one of whom was the lead guitarist of Blue Oyster Cult (with umlauts I can't seem to do on LJ). Sweet. I offered them carrot cake, but they were stuffed. Oh well.
Anyway, after that we went to the grocery store and I baked beernana bread (a beer quickbread made with Banana Bread Beer) and cooked some portobellos for the potluck that evening, which was great. It was especially great whenfyrebloom showed up with her hubby and their TWO ADORABLE BRAND-NEW TWIN BABY GIRLS OMG. I got to hold one of them, and very nearly died of the cute. Holy crap. If one teeny new baby is cute, two are exponentially cuter. Yeah, mild case of baby rabies, but nothing fatal.
Tonight I am havingvervain13 over for a casual dinner, which will be the West Indian soup called callaloo. Mmm. I can't wait to try it. We have a lot to talk about, too, and I think that will be good for both of us.
Sometime this weekend, I am going to see my lovelydahveed76. Not sure exactly when, so, um, I should e-mail him! It'll be so nice to see him again. I'll have to cook something nice for him too. Hmm. Maybe my fab seafood risotto? We'll see.
Oh, today's Thursday, and a third week has gone by without my being able to untangle the yarn for my socks that I'm knitting, so no stitch 'n' bitch for me. Meh.
