[livejournal.com profile] pierceheart and I have found a great apartment! Yay! We're going to be in the Ten Hills area of Somerville, in that little triangle created by I-93, McGrath Highway, and the Mystic River. We are, in fact going to be in the Ghetto! No, not the ghetto ghetto, but in the area where we once had three pairs of friends living at the same time, and which we came to call that. Furthermore, we will be on the same street where two of those pairs of friends lived. This is hilarious.

The apartment is spacious: two bedrooms, and six rooms total. There's a dining room, a fairly large kitchen (room enough for a small table and chairs), a living room, a very decent bathroom, and a small enclosed front porch type area which we'll probably end up using as an office. There's also a large, gorgeous back deck which will be perfect for parties. Everything looks very well maintained. The basement is almost completely empty, so there's plenty of storage space down there. The only down side is that there's no off-street parking, but we have almost always been able to get on-street parking on that block, even after everyone else has long since come home from work.

After we signed the lease (which starts right away, not on 9/1), we called up [livejournal.com profile] ravenstorm27 and [livejournal.com profile] vervain13 (the remaining pair of friends in the area), and asked if we could stop by since we were in the neighborhood and had some good news. They were delighted to see us, and mentioned how good it was to see some good friends. I told them that now we weren't just their friends, but their neighbors, and we explained about the apartment. I think that pretty much made their evening. :) They gave us good scotch, and we chatted for a couple of hours. It was awesome to see them, and it's great to know they'll be nearby.

So. We will be moving in gradually over the next week and a half. We'll bring some small stuff over in Binky, and do the furniture on the weekend of the 16th-17th in a U-Haul. I know the boy is still really nervous about this, and so am I, but I am also REALLY excited. I'm excited about having a new, nice apartment. I'm excited about sharing it with [livejournal.com profile] pierceheart. I'm excited about making the place look good. I've never, ever had this before, you know? It's a new world for me. Boy, I hope I don't fuck it up! :)

From my Freewill Astrology horoscope (Capricorn):

Here's a passage from Kurt Vonnegut's novel Breakfast of Champions: "Kilgore Trout once wrote a short story which was a dialogue between two pieces of yeast. They were discussing the possible purposes of life as they ate sugar and suffocated in their own excrement. Because of their limited intelligence, they never came close to guessing that they were making champagne." This scenario has some resemblances to what you're doing, Capricorn. Fortunately, you're much smarter than the two pieces of yeast, and so you will not do the equivalent of drowning in crap. But I bet you'll create something comparable to champagne.

And for the Libras in the audience (and I am pretty Libra-ish myself):

I'm not a fan of renowned free-market guru Milton Friedman, who died in 2006. His philosophy has wreaked more suffering on the world than any since Communism. (Read Naomi Klein's The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism for the gross details.) There's one particular keystone of his belief system that is especially important for you to rebel against in the coming weeks. He said that "only a crisis -- actual or perceived -- produces real change." In the name of all you hold holy, Libra, I ask you to prove him wrong. Show yourself and everyone who looks to you for inspiration that real change can be motivated by an exuberant lust for life -- by a generous longing to risk adventures that will yield greater rewards.
