Mentoring and mummification
Oct. 7th, 2008 12:43 pmI had Power Lunch again today. This week, we were picking up where we left off in the Magic Treehouse book about ancient Egypt. As we walked to the library where we do the reading, N told me that he had hoped to be paired with his mentor from last year, but he was glad he got me instead, because I'm more fun. He wants me to mentor him again next year. Awwwww! :)
This kid sure loves his mummies. He gave me quite a detailed description of the mummification process over lunch. This, from the kid who thinks PIRATES are too gross to read about while eating lunch! He asked me why the Egyptians mummified people, and I explained that they believed that if the body was preserved to keep it from rotting away, the spirit would survive after death, living on in another world. He seemed to understand that, and the practice of putting worldly goods into the tomb for the deceased to bring to the next life. Smart kid.
I told N that I used to love it when museums had exhibits on ancient Egypt, and would always go to see them. He's never been to a museum exhibit on Egypt, and really wants to see one. I promised I'd find out if there are any going on in the area right now, and let him know next week. There don't seem to be any currently, but there IS an Omni Theater show about them at the Museum of Science. Unfortunately, it's done playing on Thursday. Meh. I'll just have to keep an eye out.
