Jan. 10th, 2009 03:36 pmI am now the proud owner of a sonic screwdriver! SQUEE! :D I also got two lovely books that I'm eager to read.
Dinner last night was delicious. My cocktail wasn't quite as good as I'd hoped because it was fruitier than I expected, but it wasn't bad. It was some mix of Saint Germain, scotch, bitters, "citrus", and a twist of lemon.
pierceheart had something crisp and fruity with spiced rum, cranberry juice, a dash of maple, and lime (I think). We had a couple of amuse-bouches to start off with, and split them both. One was a sea trout tartare, and the other was sort of duck carpaccio. NOM. For an appetizer, I ordered grilled Spanish octopus with hearts of palm, cipollini onions, and chorizo sauce. NOM again. I mean, when I had my first bite of that tentacle, my thought was, "Where are the other seven, bitches?" The boy had three different terrines. I tried two, and they were tasty. My entree was pork two ways: belly and confit. It had mushrooms and a barolo jus of some sort. Very, very good piggy. The boy had a bacon-wrapped ribeye. We split a side of duck fat roasted fingerling potatoes, which were nom-tastic. I had a glass of nice bordeaux with my meal, and the boy had Dessert was a mocha millefeuille for me, and profiteroles with banana ice cream and chocolate sauce for him. We left full and content, but not stuffed, and quite happy.
Tonight,
pierceheart is making lasagna from scratch. Nice! I am going to make carrot soup with cumin, cardamom, ginger, etc. for a potluck tomorrow night. It's been a fairly quiet day, and life is good. :)
