I can has cheezburger!
Aug. 20th, 2009 12:16 pmLast night, J cancelled our date because he's having a tough time recovering from a cold, and wanted to rest up. Since I'm on the edge of a cold myself, I think it was a good thing for me, too. Anyway, I'd already bought stuff for dinner, and ended up making it just for me. There's enough left over to feed
pierceheart and me for dinner at some point too!
I made a cheeseburger. Usually, my burgers are veggie, turkey, or very lean ground beef. This time, though, I used that ideal burger blend of 85% lean beef. I bought a trio of pre-formed plain beef patties at Whole Foods, and seasoned one with salt and Worcestershire sauce. On Saveur's advice, I broiled it in the toaster oven. I topped it with good sharp cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, a little low-fat mayo, and ketchup, along with some baby greens and a good thick slice of heirloom tomato. I had it on a really nice burger bun from the bakery at Whole foods. I accompanied it with a salad of baby greens, heirloom tomato, and sweet onion, topped with a pomegranate-blueberry vinaigrette. Sooooooo good! Because I didn't have fries with it, it wasn't as bad as a burger at a restaurant would have been. The dressing on the salad was awesome enough that I have to make it again. For the record:
1 part Stonewall Kitchen blueberry syrup
1 part pomegranate molasses
2 parts red wine vinegar
1 part extra virgin olive oil
1 part water (you can eliminate the water and do 2 parts EVOO instead)
Then I knit and watched Gordon Ramsay, and idly wondered what he'd think of my cheezburger. He'd probably shout at me. But that's OK, I still love him. :)
