Just, y'know, stuff.
Aug. 19th, 2010 01:23 pm1. On Tuesday evening, I went to an optician in Central Square (Custom Eyes, fyi) to pick out a new pair of glasses. I figured, I was going on the red line anyway, they took my insurance, and they were well-reviewed on Yelp. I found an adorable pair that I absolutely loved. I'm really excited to get them when they're all made up next week. The customer service was great, and with my insurance, the glasses were amazingly affordable. Yeah, I love the MIT vision plan. I'll post pics when I get them. I also intend to talk to the optician about getting the measurements for the frames as well as my pupillary distance as they measured it, so I can use that info to get cheap prescription sunglasses and some slightly more subtle-and-elegant glasses for dressier occasions, on Zenni Optical. I'll post pics of the Cute New Glasses when I have them!
2. Speaking of pics, I now have a webcam at home. No wisecracks about what I should do with it, folks. :P With that and the new microphone I also got, I can do video chat with
pierceheart via Skype while he's away. Yay!
3. So on Friday night,
pierceheart and I were cleaning the apartment for the parental visit. At one point, while I was working on something in the kitchen, he poured a glass of scotch, held it out to me, and said, "What do you think of this?" I sniffed it first, and, given the smokiness of it, I asked, "Is that the Peat Monster?" Then I tried it, and said, "Oh!" because it was definitely not anything we already had on the bar, and it was absolutely blissful. Then he revealed that it was the Ardbeg Supernova 2010: a more recently bottled and rather cheaper version of the stuff we fell madly in love with at MaltCon this past winter. I think the words, "Oh my god, you DID NOT!" came out of my mouth. We shared the glass, and it was heaven.
4.Anyone know of a source where I can obtain unsprayed lavender blossoms in the Boston area? I don't want to order online because of shipping times, and the fact that I'd probably pay more in shipping than I would for the product itself. I might try Cambridge Naturals in Porter Square, but if they don't have it, I'm not sure where else to look. Artemisia might have it, but Salem's a longish trip when there isn't really anything else I need there. Edit: I thought I remembered that Harvest CoOp didn't carry lavender, but when I went to check just in case, they did indeed have it in bulk!
5. Regarding #4, that lavender is going to be used in a blueberry-lavender-vanilla mead. :)
