Ah, I have found the loveliest dress! I needed to find a formal evening gown for the black tie wedding reception of a couple I'm friends with. I was going to go to Cache' (WHY can you not do accent marks in this field?) but decided to stop at Lord and Taylor first. Tried on four dresses. One didn't fit at all. Two fit below, but were too tight on top. The last...gorgeous! It was my favorite of all the dresses, too. Yes, it was black, and I'd really wanted some shade of red. But it's Spring, and everything was PINK in the store! That was pretty much the only colour other than black, so black it was. Anyway, it is a wonderful dress. Spaghetti straps, v-neck, v-back, embellished with beautiful beadwork in silver at the bust and down the back. Only problem? It requires a backless bra. They do NOT make many of those in a DD. Scarcely any, in fact. I tried every store in the Cambridgeside Galleria, just to see if I could find something that would work, but no soap. One wonderful woman in Lane Bryant (and every woman who's a DD and up should check that place out for bras) mentioned a store called Lady Grace in Square One Mall. Now, I have no way of getting there, but they do have a web store. I have two CHEAP options that I can see on their site: either some straps that convert "any back-closure bra" into a backless (low-back, really) bra, or adhesive cups in my size. Has anyone ever tried those adhesive cups before? Do they work? If anyone who's tried them is a D or bigger, do they work for larger sizes? Any support at all? Do they make your tits look weird? I don't want a gorgeous dress but weird tits. :)

Anyway, very happy I found that hot little number, and the Lady Grace site...

call lady grace, and ask. they are THE place for bras around here. in fact, it's good to go there if possible, 'cause they'll fit you properly, as very few places can do.

i thought they had one in brookline, on the T. it might have closed.

Oooh! The woman said there was another one somewhere, but didn't know where. Cool! I'll look up the location on their site. Thanks!

This may be irrelevant now (I'm catching up on old postings), but there's also a Lady Grace at the South Shore Plaza in Braintree. I'm quite familiar with the store, as I need to go shopping there more often than not!! (Macy's occasionally has nice stuff in a DD size too, by the way. Check with them on the strapless bras if it isn't already too late.)

Oh, the Lady Grace in Brookline is MUCH closer to me. And NO store other than a specialty lingerie store carries strapless, backless stuff in a DD. I got a good bra at Lady Grace which I'm getting slightly altered. It will be perfect.

Oh that's right. I forgot about the backless part. (Silly rabbit!) Glad you found what you needed!

Me, too! I told my mom about the place (she's a 38 H) and she wants to come up this weekend!

For my friend's wedding a few years ago, all the bridesmaids needed strapless bras. *grumble grumble* The smallest of us is a C and the largest is an E. The only ones we could find in that size "Guaranteed to add a cup size!" *oh that's helpful in larger cup sizes*. We got dressed at my friend's childhood bedroom. When she saw all the bras on the bed she said "Since when are all my friends drag queens?"

It is prom season so a large mall department store may still have some too...

I do actually have a plain old strapless bra. Lane Bryant makes nice ones, unless you've got a small ribcage. I don't, so they work for me. But the back on it is too high for the dress.

I did check department stores: Lord and Taylor, and Filene's. Lane Bryant and Victoria's Secret didn't have backless in my size either. But Lady Grace seems to have a hell of a good selection, at least in their online catalogue, so I have high hopes of finding something there, or at least of getting enough info to order something online and be confident of getting what I need.

can I just say I would love to see you in a backless bra?

Or adhesive cups . . .

By themselves they aren't anything very interesting--just plain opaque bits of fabric. Pasties are more fun. :)

I agree with you on that.

Taking them off is even MORE fun.

Well, I don't know about that. It's not as bad as peeling off a band-aid, but it can smart a bit sometimes!
