Don't you just hate it when someone you care about is upset and you can't reach out and help them? Usually I have that problem with pierceheart since he's so far away. But sometimes it can happen with someone nearbye too. :(

No, but thanks. I did just hear from him at least, so I know what's going on. All I can do for him is be here and offer whatever help he wants to ask.

Yes, I hate that, too. I like feeling like I can do something to help the situation, rather than being completely useless or powerless. I (think I) understand.

I understand exactly what you are saying. Many of my close friends are having issues right now. And as much as I would like to, I can not solve their problems. I can be an ear for them. I can be available for them. Some I can even offer my shoulder to. But I can not solve their problems like I would like to.

All you can do is be available to talk with someone that remote. We all care about him and hope is is doing well but none of us can go over there and bring him home like we would like to do.

Yeah, like I said, that particular instance was about someone closer at hand, but it's hard to make contact while we're both at work.

Ah, that does make things more difficult. And most bosses have problems with the "I am going home to be supportive to a friend" statement on the hours missed reports. I don't know what to say then, except to keep the person in your thoughts and provide what comfort you can when you can.
