I knit a buttonhole! Yaaaayyy! First time ever. I figured it out on the train. I now know the cable cast on and how to make a cute li'l buttonhole for my knit stuff. Huzzah!
there's 5603 ways to make a button hole :) which did you choose? there's a REALLY swell way in a book i have, but haven't tried it yet. must at some point, as it looks posh. then again, i have to finish reading the book (more than 1/2 way through); tis : "knitting for anarchists" :>
I picked the easy beginner way--bind off a few stitches in one row, switch needles, cable cast on the same number of stitches, switch back, and keep going. It might be just a wee bit wide, but I can tighten it up easily enough.
i think i'd bind off say N stitches, but keep knitting along, turn as normal, and then do the cable-caston bit for N stitchesto cross the gap, and continue knitting like nothing happened.
so, you're saying knit... cast off N stitches, immediately pickup N stitces "backards" on that row, then continue knitting normally to the end of the row in the forwards direction...?
