Here's my interview from
pierceheart!
Oct. 18th, 2004 10:39 pm1. Why, and how, did you become so attracted to military men?
A: My first love joined the Navy after we'd been together for three years. I came to find that other men who shared similar traits--competence, strength of character, honour, and pride--were frequently attracted to the military. There are certainly jerks in the military, but the good men in the military are very good men indeed. I fell in love with another one in the Army, and swore off them because they make life so complicated. Then I fell in love with another, and well, you know the rest. :)
2. Why International Relations/Journalism?
A: I thought international affairs would prepare me for a career in which I could make a real difference in the world, while travelling and immersing myself in foreign cultures. I found out I'd be immersed in bureaucratic culture and making no difference except that which I was told to make. Journalism was a return to my love of writing, in what I thought was a fairly marketable form. And I've always been best at narrative nonfiction. I enjoy it, but it's hard to get a job nowadays.
3. What is your darkest/deepest fantasy that you would actually be willing to have come true?
A: I think you know most of them, but if I can think of something I will e-mail you in private. :)
4. What were your impressions/concerns about Stones' 03 and 04, before and after?
A: This is a bloody essay question.
'03: Worried about being a tagalong. Worried about facing the reality of you sleeping with other women for the first time in our relationship. I had to face those concerns. I ended up very happy to spend every night with you, and I was amazed I could find so much fulfillment in a public eclectic ritual forum. I was amazed that I was falling for you. And I felt so good there on the land.
'04: At first I was worried about the drama that might arise if you, me, and K were all there together. Then I was concerned you might end up regretting the promise you made to me voluntarily, that you'd only be with me while we were at Stones. I realized I didn't have as much to fear as I thought. For the second time, I was thrilled by the sense of community there, and by the friends I had met. I was deeply satisfied by working with the stones themselves, and felt good about the healing the whole experience brought me.
5. Where do you see yourself in five years: home, Craft, relationship?
A: Home and relationship go somewhat together. Within five years I would like to have moved in with a SO. No, hush, no pressure. I'm just saying that in five years, I hope I am at the point in *A* relationship where that is the right thing to do. It would be nice to own a house with someone I love, and work on making it *our* place. It would be nice to be secure and content in that relationship, but still learning new things together and growing together. And it would be nice if both that SO and I had other lovers, people who we have deep affection for, and who the other person trusts and likes very much. Craft. I hope to find that this path I'm on now is where I should stay. If that is the case, I hope to have advanced more within my tradition. I hope that by then I'll have had the chance to give something back to it, because it's already given so much to me.
Want to be interviewed too? Ask me in a comment and I'll think of 5 questions for you.

Re: These are off the top of my head, but here goes:
Date: 2004-10-20 05:41 pm (UTC)24 would say, what the fuck? Didn't you learn enough from Sonja doing the polka on your heart, you moron? How the FUCK did you end up in Iraq? I'm still doing THAT job? Whoa, you got lucky dude, she's a keeper and a looker! How the fuck could you have fucked up the marriage? Why the fuck did you do it? Wow, MP PL with a deployment, and brigade staff in a warzone.
32 would say: think twice about the marriage. Are you sure you are willing to give up all those things that are so . . . intimately you? The best IS yet to come, even if you do what I did. Don't EVER give up. Nothing is worth giving up. Watch out for the pretty, sensitive ones, they'll get you every time.
2. Name the accomplishment or achievement of which you are most proud, and say why that is so.
Being able to try again, romantically. I am proud of it because it takes a shitload of guts. There were many times I thought about giving the fuck up. But, I have not, and I will not. I have the courage to try again, and the brains to make it work.
3. If you could speak to John Kerry and tell him what you want to see him do if he's elected, what would you say?
Mr. President, end the ban on gays in the military. I was told in an army law class in 1995, that no matter what don't ask don't tell says, the military will still kick gays out, only it will do it administartively, not criminally. This means that the standard protection in criminal defense (self incrimination, DR-patient, clergy-congregant) is not available. this is NOT protecting and defending the constitution. The UCMJ charges for sodomy, which includes oral and manual sex, will never be enforced against heterosexual service-members UNLESS there are other complicating issues, such as rape, incest, age difference, adultery, fraternization etc. This is NOT equal application of the law, and not what I believe I pledged to defend. The system sets up the conditions by which homosexual or bisexual service-members fear blackmail, thus MAKING them security hazards. If there were no ban, they would be less worried about being outed, and therefore less of a security risk.
Allow concurrent receipt of military pension AND disability pay.
Scrap the PATRIOT act, and enforce the Bill of RIghts. ALL OF IT! Read Jefferson and Franklin on liberty and security and rebellion. Read Goerring at the Nuremburg War Crimes Trials.
BALANCE THE FUCKING BUDGET! If my check book isn;t balance, I can't get anything. Neither should the federal government.
Simplify the tax code.
And, finally, get the State out of the marriage business. Make civil unions the standard for ALL US Citizens. Marriage is the province of churches.
4. How are you going to leave the world a better place than you found it?
This is actually a simple one. I asked COL Jeffrey Marshall why I was in Bosnia. He said that if I even managed to save ONE child's life by being there, I succeeded. If I can touch ONE person, who passes on what I have given them, I have made the world better.
5. What are three big hopes you have for the next five years of your life, and what are you going to do to make them happen?
Better job. I will rewrite my resume, and finally apply myself to the JOB of getting a job.
A home. I will save like I am doing, and look very hard for things I can afford that meet my criteria. If I cannot find such, I will lower my criteria slightly. Or wait longer.
Stable, loving, healthy, open relationship, where we are together in our home. To that end I will talk to those I love. I will look inside myself. I will seek some counselling, as I need it. I will try to talk to the Lady more.
