I didn't watch the whole baseball game last night, and went to bed on time instead for a change. However, checking the score was one of the first things I did this morning. Truth be told, I don't give a rat's ass about baseball. I do care about the Sox, though, and want to see them win the World Series. Why? I love this city. I bitch about some things here like the high rent and the awful parking, but I love the city, and wouldn't want to settle down anywhere else. It's my home, and the Sox are a part of that.
And I believe in hope. The Sox fans have been holding on to hope for decades, waiting for their team to make them proud. The determination I've seen in the players and their fans this year gives me hope. I have been in situations where a good outcome seemed impossible, and disappointment the only option. But I held on, and in time, I was glad I did because things turned around and I found more happiness than I ever expected. So I believe in hope, and I will hope for a Sox win. I want to see the looks on their faces when it happens. I want to see the whole city uplifted by the reminder that if you believe, if you fight, if you put your heart and soul into it, you can overcome anything and climb out of any hole you've dug for yourself. People can laugh at you, they can tell you you're crazy to think there's a chance, but they can't take your hope away if you don't let them, and they can't stop you from doing your best.
