Wow. Just...wow.

I am a bit overwhelmed, here.

Sitting in a bag under my desk here are three bottles of scotch. One is 16-year-old Lagavulin. One is 1988 Distiller's Edition Lagavulin. The third is 25-year-old Caol Ila. As old as I am.

[livejournal.com profile] pierceheart, you'd better come home and help me make good use of your presents!!!!!

Love you, darlin'.

Oh, and this is in addition to the lovely bottle of Talisker that [livejournal.com profile] geoogo and [livejournal.com profile] cutieyum got for me. Mmmmmmm. And then there's the bottle of Scapa I bought and have barely started.

I think this means there's only one thing to do: I must have a scotch party, and soon. Note to self: keep the house clean.

Have you seen Anchorman?

yes, you are loved.

have you had caol ila? do you like islays? the iodine taste makes me run screaming, no matter how 'good' it is. personal preference.

Ah, see, the iodine taste is what makes a scotch really fabulous to me. I love it. It's why I prefer islays and Talisker.

Um, I am actually an associate there, now (free membership).

I keep thinking about buying in on a cask syndicate.

the stuff drew gets from the SMWS is MAGNIFICENT. i have other friends who also are members, but they prefer islays so i can't really drink their scotch. drew however has tastes similar to mine. so sweet!

(and you know, giles in this picture is supposed to be drinking scotch. mmmmmm scotch.)

I am waiting for my pw and user name to be emailed from the shops. I am going to get into buying a new different bottle every two months.

I am GOING to try and find a Port Ellen.

Okay, i am an associate member on the single malt insider website, as well as scotchwhisky.com.

Looking into SMWS now.

I totally agree with Laura on this one. I love all the Islays (and made damn sure I learned to say Eye-la).

Bunnahabhain and Bruichladdich are nice soft and mossy Islays, seeing as how they draw their water from the well directly, as opposed to the brown water used by the southern distilleries on the island, namely Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Port Ellen (gods how I wish i could find a Port Ellen, but they closed in 83).

I like the stronger southern ones more.

Funny, Skye and the Orkneys are not regional designations for any Single malt, but Talisker and Scapa (which I THINK is an Orkney) are both wonderful whiskies.

Bruichladdich is okay for me. I did just give part of a bottle of Laphroaig to a friend because i'm not gonna drink it. :)

when i was in scotland, i went to the whiskey shop in glasgow. since i sounded like i knew what i was talking about (i don't, i rely on my friends to tell me what scotch i'll like), the staffperson offered me a taste of port ellen - he didn't have any for sale, but had an opened bottle for tasting. OMG. that stuff was DIVINE. sigh.

I have now found TWO different aged Port Ellens.

the 24 year old for £94.00 (distilled in 1979).

and another 24 year old, the 1982 distillation, at £78.00

Both cask strength.

Ooooooh. Nummy.

I suspect that you will eventually get to a point where your scotch collection will rival [livejournal.com profile] pir's. Hell, at this rate, so will mine! :)

I am looking into the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, now. they bottle their own that is numbered.

"The Society's Tasting Committee selects individual casks of the finest malt whiskies from virtually every distillery in every region (Highland, Lowland, Islay, Campbelton and Island) of Scotland. We then take the contents of a particularly fine cask and bottle it at full cask strength, without the processes of dilution or chill-filtration. Each cask produces about 275 bottles (750 ml size) at an average strength of 120 proof. As no two casks taste alike, each bottle bears a specific code, which indicates to the member not only the distillery from which the whisky originates but also the specific cask."

One is 16-year-old Lagavulin which is now so rare they have to restrict sales of it.

One is 1988 Distiller's Edition Lagavulin
Damnit that was supposed to be the 1987, I think.

The third is 25-year-old Caol Ila
Cask strength, I might add. You may want to water that one a bit.

Please to save me some?

It was so difficult to not say how much the Talisker costs in £s, as that might have given away the other gifts.

"Lagavulin Distillery 16 Year Old • Single Islay Malt Scotch Whisky 70cl • 43%
Lagavulin Distillery Vintage 1987 Double Matured “Distillers Edition” • Single Islay Malt Scotch Whisky 70cl • Finished in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks • 43%
Caol Ila Distillery 25 Year Old • Single Islay Malt Scotch Whisky 70cl • Natural Cask Strength 59.4%
Comments • Lagavulin 16 YO has been restricted due to demand outstripping supply. Even harder to locate is the premium “Distillers Edition”. The Lagavulin owners have a second Islay Distillery – Caol Ila – and we have added their excellent 25 YO Cask Strength bottling to make this Islay Triple Selection a very special opportunity for any Lagavulin enthusiast."

That is what comes off of the site.

Honey, this is amazing. You have impeccable taste, and you're very sweet to give me this lovely stuff. Thank you so very much.

You are so very welcome. I know I have good taste, i asked you out, didn't I?

I am glad I found the shop. I will have to introduce you to my friend Rich who introduced me to the site.

Flattery will get you everywhere!

And [livejournal.com profile] lindalee was telling me about this club...can't remember the name, but it was something obvious. They drink scotch and sing. Sounds like something you and I would love. :)

Yes. I am now a subscriber to a few things off of sscotchwhisky.com
This is one of the places you can buy in on a cask of whisky.

Or, even buy in on a distillery itself. This distillery will never sell by retail, only to members.

That reminds me that I have plum wine chilling in my fridge. I'm tempted to have some while writing. Mmm, tasty tasty plum wine.

Yes. Sweet wines are not always girly. Port is not girly. I like port. I have begun to like the more *refined* sweet drinks. Not the tropical frozen stuff or the ones with the wacky innuendo-laden names. The snooty stuff. :)
