Huzzah!

I now have a nice new bookcase! I bought an unfinished pine one yesterday, and was so greatly enthused that I just *had* to sand it and put a cherry stain on it last night as soon as I got it home. It looks great. I'd like to put a coat of polyurethane on it, but my roommate complained about the smell of the stain, and about the cold when I had to keep the windows open for ventilation. Grr. I could wait until he spends a weekend away for Easter, but that would delay putting the books onto the shelf. Eh, fuck it. I can always take the books off and do it some other time.

I also bought some stackable storage drawers which will make my life ever so much easier. All my yarn and needles fit in one drawer, as well as my spinning stuff. My candlemaking supplies fit into another, with room left over for finished candles. The third drawer will be all the beads and stuff my grandmother had, which can be used for various art projects. I can also add another couple of drawers on top, should I decide I need them. Hell, maybe I could put all my herbs and essential oils in one. Hmm...very exciting. Yes.

The evening was nicely rounded out by watching an hour of the Simpsons with Billy and Jason, getting some good cuddle time with the latter. He even brought me two lovely (non-Reese's) peanut butter cups. Mmm.

Oh, and I bought a present for Kilt-Boy too. Not a sheep, but I couldn't resist when I saw it. :)

Note to self: if you're going to do something scary, don't do it practically first thing in the morning.

A friend on one of my mailing lists who has a son bound for Kuwait sent me a link to Faces of Valor, a website that among other things, has lists of American soldiers killed in the Iraqi war. I decided to look for my friend Dan's name, hoping that not seeing it would make me feel a little better. Well, I scrolled down an alphabetical list of names when I saw his last name. Fuck. Not a lot of people spell their name that same way, that I know of. (edited to take out his last name for reasons of privacy) This was also a sergeant, like Dan. It took me a second to realize that the first name given was Jason, not Dan. In that second, I think I lost ten years off my life. Not a good way to start the day, I tell ya.

I'm sure Dan's ok. Just because I haven't heard from him in 14 months doesn't mean he's not ok, right? And it doesn't necessarily mean that he doesn't want to talk to me, right? Gods, I hope not. I miss my friend.

Mmmm...

Oh boy, do I love carrot juice! It should be illegal for vegetables to be so yummy and sweet that they're as good as a milkshake!

Ooohhh...just got an idea for carrot ice cream. I ought to pass that on to my friend T, who has an ice cream maker...

Yum.

I was just looking up the lyrics to "Here Comes the Sun", my happy song. There were a few adverts on the site--for concert DVDs, music, band merchandise, etc. I saw this one and thought it said "Premium Tickets" at first. That would have made sense (concert tickets sort of thing). Then I saw that what it actually said was:

Premium Crickets
Pest and Disease Free $29.95 6 shipments of 60 Crickets
www.premiumcrickets.com

A big WTF to that. Yes, I know snakes and frogs eat 'em, but advertising them on a music lyrics site? Oy vey.
