Bootses or lack thereof

Last night I tried to find myself a good pair of winter boots. I went to DSW since they're usually cheaper there. Now, there were some boots there that were Serious Boots. You know--waterproof, insulating to -25F, good rubber soles, the whole nine yards. Most of the boots, though, were "fashion" boots for winter, which looked like the offspring of a mukluk and a lhasa apso: shaggy fur everywhere, with the occasional poodle-like pompom. Gah. Some of them even had four-inch heels ferfucksake. Among the Serious Boots, there was a single pair I really liked: they were cute as well as Serious, in a nice simple black look. They met with my price criteria ($100), and I almost bought them. But I REALLY wanted Serious Boots that came up to mid-calf, and these were just above the ankle. That means cold legs if there's a deep snow. Meh. Only the lhasa apsos were tall. :(

Impulse spending (bootses take two)

So I just ordered a pair of Ugg boots on eBay. They're Ultimate Tall, in Chestnut. They look like this. They're cheapish compared to others because although they're new, the seller doesn't have the box anymore. I was going to just buy some Classic Tall ones directly off the website (since shipping was free, the price would have been the same as for these), but they're backordered until mid-February. Nope, not gonna cut it. I'm very excited. My last pair of Serious Boots were bought from Eddie Bauer when I was about 12. They finally bit the dust two years ago. I hear these Ugg things are pretty durable and comfy, and the idea of being barefoot inside sheepskin boots makes me very happy indeed. It's a BIT more than I wanted to spend, but I think it will be worthwhile. Mmm. Bootses. Sheepie bootses. Yay.
