So this past weekend was Arisia, the Boston fan-run sci-fi convention. I went. It was my first time ever at a con.

It started late Friday afternoon or early evening-ish. I, of course, was working Friday. After work, I headed home and changed into something less comfortable, because gods know I never get as many opportunities as I would like to get all dressed up. No-longer-a-hobble skirt and too-big red velvet corset went on. ([livejournal.com profile] pir, if you'd seen it, the difference between the time I wore it to ManRay and how it looks now is scary.) I then headed back into town and met up with [livejournal.com profile] dee_cee and [livejournal.com profile] erik_j_meyer. Also ran into [livejournal.com profile] tisana and some other peoples. Much chatting. Looked at what was open on Dealers' Row. Watched a bit of Rocky Horror. Heard a reading of "The Very Secret Diaries", which would have been great if this high-pitched bitch behind me hadn't been shrilly shrieking with laughter every three seconds. Ice pick through the head, I tell ya. Heard Cecilia Tan read a short story or two, significantly raising the temperature in the room. Whew. No parties of note were going on, so I went home at a reasonable hour and went to bed.

Saturday I slept in, showered, and got dressed in my good silver and black corset over my poufy renfaire shirt, with a pair of jeans. It looked a little pirate-y. I liked. I wanted a funky pirate hat to wear with it. Got a Santa Monica from Bagel Rising for the first time in AGES, and got drugs for [livejournal.com profile] dee_cee. I went to the hotel and gave them to her. We wandered around the dealers' room for a while, and then she had a panel she wanted to go to. I went to say hi to [livejournal.com profile] tigira and [livejournal.com profile] meadmaker, who were dressing little kiddies up in costumes. There was much awwwwww. Also some shock, when I told them who was babysitting for the smaller kiddies that year...

Anyway, I then went to look at shiny things from the vendors again, buying a wooden cup, a snood, and some jet and red pearl beads with which to make a choker. I also tried on a corset at Fallen Angel Fashions, where I got my first one. The ever-flirtatious and amiable Tom laced me into a corset two sizes smaller than the one I have now. I wanted it, but I think I will wait until I have a new place to live and have put down the down payment first. Then came a panel on polyamory. Interesting. I had a topic I wanted to hear discussed, but couldn't think how to phrase it as a question rather than a soapbox gripe: those annoying bastards who think polyamory is The One True Way..."polyvangelists", I call them. After the panel, there was more shopping with [livejournal.com profile] dee_cee. She got a lovely black lacy top. I got a cheap burgundy velvet skirt ($14!!! OMG!!!) from Fallen Angel, and a beautiful green amber pendant. We went to dinner, and I ran into [livejournal.com profile] pir on the way. As I suspected, he looks damned good in full leathers. Got to meet a friend of [livejournal.com profile] pierceheart's, who was quite intelligent and very nice. Then we changed for the "club" dance that night. I put on the new skirt and took off my poufy shirt. Snazzy. I got to see [livejournal.com profile] erik_j_meyer in black PVC. Woo!

We made the rounds of the parties. We got rocket fuel. Interesting stuff. Cecilia Tan served it to us at one point. How cool is that? :) We ate this maple-y Canuck version of dulce de leche. We saw a troll and got irritated by her. (Which troll, you ask? "Have a motherfucking piece of apple!") Andre the Giant asked if he could touch my breasts. "No. Just because they're on display doesn't mean you can play with them." Fuck off, Fezzik. He also asked [livejournal.com profile] dee_cee if she was drunk enough to sleep with him. I told him, "I don't think there's enough alcohol in the world." She mentioned her boyfriend would NOT be happy with the idea. Eventually, Andre got kicked out of the party and moped off. We went to the big ballroom that had been turned into a pseudo-ManRay-ish club. Danced. I met [livejournal.com profile] sarum and played with his whip. Oooooh. I freely admit to being a wee bit of a tease on the dance floor, but hell--he was being a flirt. I had a difficult time convincing him he didn't have to feel guilty about that, because [livejournal.com profile] pierceheart really wouldn't mind. He was polite, too. Not like Fezzik. I also got to talk to [livejournal.com profile] dalious (in a kilt! *drool*) and P. (who I met on OKCupid, and who is a friend of friends). Nice long chat there. I danced more. Eventually, after 4am, I got my stuff and waited for a cab home. Now I wish I'd stayed the night. You all saw my post about my trip home. Gah. But at least I got to sleep in a bed and not on the floor.

Yesterday I was too daunted by the snow to go back to the con. Next year, I am getting a hotel room with [livejournal.com profile] pierceheart, so we don't have to worry about that crap. I can't wait. :)

Long-ish, did I say? No. Rambling. Sheesh. But I'm done now. :)

Edit: I feel the need to praise some guys who looked very nice indeed this past weekend in all their finery: [livejournal.com profile] pir, [livejournal.com profile] dalious and [livejournal.com profile] erik_j_meyer I already mentioned. Also, P. from OKCupid looked very nice when I met him. So did [livejournal.com profile] deadwinter. So did [livejournal.com profile] muninwing, who I don't see too much of, and who I keep forgetting is as cute as he is. :) Yes, if nothing else, it's good to see such a nice bunch of cute boys at Arisia! *glee*

This was just a guy with no social skills whatsoever who happened to look like him.

So you're saying this wasn't an Andre the Giant zombie?

Because, with the rise of the undead?

Nah, he wasn't as tall, or quite as broad. But he was rather large, and had the same homely face and curly dark hair.

Zombies might have been less creepy.

Let me get this straight: Tall, dark curly hair, rather large, no social skills whatsoever...was he wearing a sweatshirt of sorts, and some kind of string-thingy around his neck? Oh, no, it's Clueless Fanboy (TM)!

Seriously, it sounds like the guy who was drooling all over my friend [livejournal.com profile] hammercock last year, to the point where her sweetie and various other friends basically had to play Secret Service to keep him away from her. And to think I actually sat next to him in the con suite and noshed on cheese and crackers...

LOL...I'm not surprised other people have had problems. He seems like a complete jackass when it comes to talking to women.

Can I add to the oh yeah does Dalious look adorable in a kilt with no shirt.

I had a pretty decent time too, lots of drinking which was unusual and I think I gave away about 300 lollipops.

Do you own many corsets?

Date: 2005-01-24 08:55 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] badseed1980.livejournal.com
Three. Two are now too big for me: a black PVC one and a red velvet one. Those are cheap corsets--they have only a little light plastic boning and zip up the back. I own one good one, a "real" corset with a busk, back lacing, and good spring steel boning in many places. That's the one in the icon you see here. It's too big now as well, though I can still wear it better than the others if I lace it all the way shut. I need a 24 instead of a 26.

From what I can see it is a quite lovely corset in your icon. Where did you get yours?

I love corsets.

My wife bought her first one (a custom corset) from a lady on ebay who also runs http://www.altered-tyme.com/ absolutely incredible and affordable.

The corset used to be a bit tight on her but now it is a bit lose, it is an underbust corset in silk brocade.

Here is a photo of it off her webbie:

I got it from Fallen Angel Fashions. It's an off-the-rack, but it still fits my rack (and waist) well. Your wife's is lovely! I can't wear underbusts, alas.

I think they are really quite fashionable.

The hard part perhaps is finding things to accompany them.
