Ok, so I think I am getting pretty serious about this whole job search idea. I have some time today, really, because most of the work I have to do is busy work, so I thought I'd look into it.
The sales guy e-mailed me today asking me to print a bunch of attachments, label them as he instructed, and put them on the boss's desk. Ok. Everything laid out neatly, labeled clearly, and I even consulted with the sales guy to discuss exactly how that should be done. Put the stuff on boss's desk. The boss asked me, "Did you put stickies on it?"
Huh? No one mentioned stickies at any point. I just said, "No, I didn't."
"Well, it's impossible to know what's going on in this kind of structure without stickies...blah blah blah. I printed the stuff out myself, and I'll just use that and put the stickies on. You can take these away."
I called sales guy and told him. He said, "You know, sometimes I feel like shooting myself."
Sales guy is boss's golden boy for the most part. If HE feels that way, you know it's bad.
So I went online to check out what Houghton Mifflin and TWBG had available for jobs. I found this on TWBG's site:

Well, I've got a journalism education, an excellent command of the English language, great communications skills...think I may brush up the ol' resume and take a shot at this. I wonder how much they pay. I know people who are unhappy at TWBG, but it's a very different department from the one they're in, and who knows? This might be kinda nice...
I just hate my boss so damned much. I am seriously losing any motivation I ever had, working here. I don't want to hate going to work anymore.

Date: 2005-03-31 04:06 pm (UTC)This wasn't a mistake, this was a "Laura was never given instructions to do this, has never had to do this before, and was not aware such a thing was even done" moment. At least he didn't actually get mad at me. That's a plus. But yeah, he's good at making me feel three inches high. I want out before I have to do another employee review...those crush me.

It might be something you wanted to get away from, but it is health-related admin, and the next town over. Copyediting sounds more related to what you got your degree in, of course, and is in town, but I thought I'd point it out.
