Beer good.
Apr. 28th, 2005 01:13 pmYesterday I left work early to go get some medical stuff done. When I was done with that shit, I went to a Thai place for dinner with
pierceheart. They brought him his Thai iced tea quickly enough, but took forever to take our food order. Then they brought my food out. Ten minutes later they brought his. Sheesh. We were pissed. I was half-done with my dinner already, and he was hungry and just sitting there.
By the time dinner was over, it was already about 8:30. We were concerned about getting to NERAX in time to do some drinking, so we took a cab from Allston to Davis Square. The cabbie was an amusing guy from Uganda who ranted about Haitian cabbies who always assume that every black dude driving a cab is Hatian, and speak to them in French. He got us there in time to put a deposit on our quarter-pint glasses, and we got to work. I can't remember everything we tried without looking at the program I annotated, but here are a few:
Port o' Call - VERY toasty with a coffee-like aroma. This reminded me of driving by the Autocrat coffee plant in Rhode Island and smelling the coffee roasting. JUST like that. While I liked the smell, I didn't like drinking a quarter pint of it.
Dark Moor - Rich and dark ale, malty, with a subtle blackcurrant flavour. Nice. Very smooth and drinkable.
Shed IPA - Tasty and bitter, with a nice hoppy aroma. Not an ass-kicker in the bitterness department, but quite assertive.
L'Amour du Jour - A nice fruity ale without much bitterness to it. A tartly spicy aroma (
pierceheart detected coriander) and a very noticeable blueberry flavour.
Dark Isle - Heavenly! I would gladly partake of this luscious treat again. It was quite tart but not very bitter. A distinct black cherry nose and flavour at first, turning to something else that I can't quite define as I drank more. Absolutely wonderful.
Yeah, it was a good drinking session. :)
