Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh!!

I've been traumatized. I went to take a big gulp of coffee from my thermos this morning.

Apparently, in my haste, I reached for the wrong green-topped round tupperware container full of white crystals this morning when I went to sweeten my coffee.

Yup, instead of Splenda, I have 2 teaspoons of salt in my coffee.

NOT happy!!!

It's so hard to do something as complex as making coffee, when you haven't had your coffee yet!

Uck. My sympathies -- I'm not a Splenda/Nutrasweet/Sweet'n'Low sort of gal myself (I like sugar/raw sugar), so I'd probably have a similar reaction if I'd put that in my cup by accident. *hugs*

Oh, I prefer raw sugar, but Splenda is better for me when I'm cutting calories. But salt? Nope. Not THAT much, and not in coffee.

I'd been wondering about that, myself. He's one of very few country musicians I actually like. (Not normally a country fan.)

My older cousin listened to him a lot as a kid. As did my aunt. I associate him with my younger years.

His last album though...

wow.

Covers of Sting, NIN, and the list goes on...

I listened to it once the first time I bought it (the week he died) and then I didn't listen to it again for a year.

I am so very happy that he covered Nick Cave (because they cover each other very well).

Not to get all emo on you, but that album was the first one since Sting's The Soul Cages that elicited a real emotional response.

Yeah. Me, too! (His last album.) I think my favorite tracks on that were "I Hung My Head" (his) and his cover of "Personal Jesus." That CD kicked ass! I do want to go back and get a couple of his other albums, though. I'd always liked him, but in passing. Buying his last CD really gave me a good feel for his style.

I'm the same way with country music in general. When I was growing up, my mom listened to the likes of Kenny Rogers, Charlie Pride, and Anne Murray, and they grew on me. I don't listen to them now, but I do like Kenny Rogers somewhat.

This new, pop country stuff is a joke though, IMO. I just much prefer rock.

My tastes are very eclictic. My iPod has 2100 songs on it that don't belong together at all.

Classical, a little pop, Rock (of course), electronica, dance...
Most of it English, but French (which I speak), a little bit of Spanish (which I understand a little) and Italian.

The Crystal Method seems to be popping up quite often tho. It's great music to train by (taekwondo).

AAAACK. I did that once, while on a field problem, in college.

We did 72 hours of patrolling and classes. With no sleep.

I ripped open all of the packets in my MRE, to dump into a cup of coffee: coffee packet (MORE!), sugar, sugar, creamer, cocoa. It was only after my first sip that I remembered there is only ONE sugar packet in an MRE.

The splenda is in a WHITE covered tupperware.

I will fix the salt shaker today.

That happened when [livejournal.com profile] cmyriam and I took our puff pastry class. Someone gave us a bowl & said it was sugar, so we made our cinnamon sugar palmiers with it.

But it was salt. Ick!

Been there, done that - though I don't remember whether I noticed in time or whether I had the full experience.

As for the choice of sugar replacements - I'm curious whether someone will eventually develop a cheap way to manufacture L-sucrose. It's mirror image sugar - it tastes like regular sugar, since the taste buds don't detect the mirror reversal, but it's indigestable, since the enzymes that break down sugar are themselves not symmetric.

is that invert sugar?

Date: 2005-08-26 08:25 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] unferth.livejournal.com
Not as far as I can tell - from a bit of web research it sounds like invert sugar is made from splitting the fructose and glucose in sucrose, but it's still digestable. One web site I found even refers to high fructose corn syrup as invert sugar. L-sucrose would be exactly like regular cane sugar, except that it'd be indigestable. Probably even safer for your teeth, if it's also indigestable by mouth bacteria.

It's prohibitively expensive to make, though. There's an article in Wired (http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/11.11/newsugar_pr.html) about one sugar substitute that works along the same lines, but it's not quite the same thing.

For a while we had a few scurrying ants in our kitchen. So I put everything up in glass containers with sealed lids to help motivate them to dissuade the invasion.

Today while cleaning the kitchen I noticed that an ant had entered a salt shaker by accident.

This reminded me of you :)

Cheerup, you survived your salty ordeal, the ant didn't ;)
