1. Does anyone know how I can get some of those ribbons made for Arisia? I want some that say "Fascist Meanie Poo-Poo Head" on them.

2. My boss is giving the company the day after Thanksgiving as a paid holiday this year! W00t!

3. Idiots are annoying. There are so many on some of the communities I'm on, that if I had Strangle-Through-The-Computer powers, there would be a lot of very dead people.

4. I was terribly disappointed by the film of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It had a few laughs, yeah, but I thought the casting was godawful, the stupid things they did to the plot were, well, stupid, and that Doug Adams must be turning in his grave. Bleah. Gimme a break. Still, "So Long And Thanks For All The Fish" is a catchy, silly song.

Yes. We clearly are in the same comms.
I totally agree.

1. Sorry, can't help you there.
2. WOOT!!
3. I'm convinced that the vast number of complete f-ing idiots out there is proof positive that "intelligent design" is a crock of shit.
4. Doesn't it suck when a highly anticipated movie lets you down in a big way? I'm really looking forward to "Elizabethtown" (with Orlando Bloom, natch) and "Brokeback Mountain" and I will be pretty disappointed if they don't live up to the hype.

:)

No.

I want to see Firefly first, and I don't care if I see Serenity in the theater or not as a result. I know I don't HAVE to, but I think I'll get a richer experience from the movie if I see the show first.

:(

if you wait too long you'll get spoiled for the movie. people who have seen it are generally sewing their fingers together to keep from spilling the plot points, 'cause they're HUGE.

but i shall not push (except in my own journal!). i'll be good. :)

4. I must be the only long-time D.A. fan who actually liked this movie. I thought the casting was fine (especially Sam Rockwell's "Dubya in Space" version of Zaphod, and Mos Def's Ford...although Tim Roth might have been a better choice...), and, from what I understand, most of the new material and plot alterations were written by Adams, or at least under his supervision. Could have been a better movie, sure, but I enjoyed it.

Eh, I'm glad someone liked it, I guess. I thought Zaphod LOOKED the part perfectly, but I think that he came off as a total and complete blithering idiot, whereas the Zaphod in the book was just an egocentric spaced-out dude of the Keanu Reeves variety. Oh man, pity Keanu doesn't look the part...he'd have been perfect!

Mos Def wasn't bad, but I always think of Ford as a little snarkier and brighter.

I think one thing that really got me was that the movie was so Americanized. Whatever remaining British flavor there was seemed forced as a result. It was like watching a clueless American tourist asking directions in London, or something. Even just getting a dialogue coach to help the actors put on British accents would have been something.

It's funny...usually, I'm not one of those people who really turns her nose up at a movie made from my favorite books. Usually, my opinion is more along the lines of, "they could have done X and Y better, but it was cool." This just rubbed me the wrong way, though.

I didn't care for the second head effect.

How so?
Didn't think it was well done?

I was always wondering how they were going to do it . . .

It was an interesting idea, but... the visual effect of the mechanism clunking back and forth really detracted from the dialogue. It lacked that interrupting-himself quality that Zaphod had....

Actually, Adams changed The Hitchhiker's Guide in every incarnation he created. There were differences between the original Radio show to the books, to the TV show, to the computer game, to the movie. IIRC he had a hand in all of them. I doubt he's rolling in his grave, he knew to change things depending on the medium. I enjoyed it. It wasn't "WOW!" like I hoped, but I thought it was a lot of fun.

1. I don't know, but if you make some, I want one! ('Cause I am, as you know).

2. Excellent!

3. Sometimes I wonder where the idiots go at night. Oh, then I turn on the TV, and there they are!

4. I enjoyed it. Though, I also know that DA made most of those changes himself. He wanted to make the movie more "Americanized" than its predecessors. I don't know why, but it was always in flux. What was made was what was actually the most recent draft when he died. He didn't think it was ever finished.

Ok, I will make sure to get you a ribbon! If I can't get them, I will have buttons made. :)

Do you have a sample of the type of ribbon, or a picture? I might be able to arrange something...
