Friday night was pretty quiet. The boy and I stayed in and got some work done, and he made some incredibly nummy shrimp scampi to satisfy my garlic craving. Mmm.
Saturday, we had brunch at Kelly's Diner, and then headed over to a friend's place for pumpkin carving. This year, I finally tried my hand at a complex pattern using those little saw kits, and I'm pleased to say it turned out pretty damn well! I'm not much of an artist, so having the little bitty saws and the pattern to work from helped me turn out something a lot better than my usual Standard Jack-O-Lantern Face thingy. Carving pumpkins and drinking mulled cider while watching the snow come down outside was awesome!

dee_cee and erik_j_meyer's condo-warming (and Halloween) party. The theme for costumes was "HOT HOT HOT". I went dressed as Bettie Page, since she's incredibly hot (and I've always wanted to try the costume). pierceheart wore his desert-style man-dress, i.e. typical Arabic clothing, because the desert is, as he will assure you, very fucking hot. So many of my friends were there that I'm not going to bother to list ALL of them. Some costumes of note, however: ravenstorm27 and vervaine13 were dressed (respectively) as a she-demon whore from the Lower East Side of Hell, and her demon pimp daddy. Seeing a 7'2" man in drag and feeling his boobs was a novel experience. cloakedrose was wearing red and black liquid latex from the waist up, and some funky freaky contacts. I don't think I managed to convince him that it was the former instead of the latter that made it hard for people to look him in the eye. ;) There was also a baby of unbelievable cuteness, belonging to wolf_kells, in a cat costume that made me squee and wish for an insulin shot.
Yesterday we slept in a little bit, and started on a cleaning spree in my apartment. That felt nice. I cooked up a big batch of Rhode Island-style clam chowder to bring to my friends' place tonight. Shaw's employees do give you odd looks when you order eight pounds of live quahogs. I'd never actually made or even eaten this kind of chowder before, in spite of the fact that I'm a Rhode Islander, but I think it turned out pretty damn good. I used Jasper White's recipe, and he rocks. Redbones delivery for dinner meant that I didn't have to do any more cooking last night, and I still have some leftover brisket and coleslaw. Mmmmm...brisket. I just hope there's some vinegar sauce left.
