It was great leaving work early on Friday. We managed to make it to my parents' house early enough to get to spend some good time with my mom. She liked the MAC compact I got her, and I liked the check she gave me! She also gave me my birthday present (early): an 11-piece Henckels
knife set! SCORE! They got
pierceheart a lovely mandoline, and Mom loved the cheese board and plates he got her. The flight down to MD was ok, and we met
pierceheart's parents at the airport. We had dinner (crab cakes OMG!) at the Olney Ale House.
The next day we went out to a gaming store where
pierceheart knew the people working there. There was much chatter and "OMG I FEEL OLD!" amongst them. I bought a Santa Cthulhu and a SPECIAL SECRET PRESENT for
chaos_current. :D Then we bought cheap champers at the PX and went home to wrap gifts. I awed
pierceheart's family with my mad wrapping skillz. Dinner was steaky goodness, and then I got dressed for Midnight Mass. It was quite nice, with a good choir singing pretty carols. I think my reaction to it was fairly similar to my reaction to going to a Hindu temple with my friend T: "This is totally foreign to me, but it has a certain beauty, and the music is good!" Bed was late that night, and welcome.
Christmas day we opened gifts.
pierceheart's mom and dad liked my gifts! Yay! They got me some funky martini glasses. My boy KNIT me a SCARF!!! I am so damn lucky to have that boy. YAY! He also got me an incense burner and a statue of Cernunnos modeled on the Gundestrup cauldron. OOOH! There was much prep work to be done, and I did my best to help out where I could.
pierceheart's mom seemed appreciative. I got further brownie points that evening for keeping her champagne glass full. :)
The dinner was great. I like my boy's brothers muchly, and his brother's friend was cool too. I felt young, though. :) I drank a lot but didn't get drunk, and went to bed stone cold sober. I woke up at 3am and threw up, though. Must have been something I ate. I felt better when I got up at about 10 the next morning, though. Had a very quiet day before we went back to the airport to fly to RI.
I got to see both my parents that night and the next day. My father and sister love their scarves. I'm glad: L's boyfriend got her CRAPPY cheap gifts, so I'm glad she liked SOMETHING she got. We drove back to Boston fairly early in the day, so the boy could do his Grand Lodge thing. Now here I am in work again, blah. But it was a good vacation.
