Performance high
May. 12th, 2006 10:48 amGot it again. :)
I'm still buzzing from last night's performance. I danced at the Athenian Corner in Lowell, as planned. I did the veil portion of a full routine, and from what people said, I did fairly well. (Of course, I can point to several screw-ups, but overall I'm pleased with how it went.) It was a total BLAST. The band gave me a song I knew, "Bir Demet Yasamen", but I felt like I could have danced to anything that they might have wanted to play when I went out there. Man, having all those people watching me as I danced down the aisle to the stage ROCKED. Everyone else was totally amazing. I always get such a kick out of watching Nara in particular...if I could have half her attitude and presence on stage, I'd be doing well for myself. She could be doing anything dancewise, and the audience would be smiling from ear to ear.
All this has made me look forward to this summer's workshops on karsilima and taxim in particular. Karsh is so fun and funky, and oooo, those twirling skirts! And I'd love to be able to dance to a taxim from the excellent violinist there. I wish I were better at drum solo, though...the sharp torso movements are hard for me. Hips, I can do nice and crisp. My torso always wants to be languid and smooth, though. I must work on that. Maybe I should do some crunches or something, build up my ab strength.
It was great having
pierceheart,
brontosproximo, and
starfire91 there, though
cloakedrose never showed. I'll have to e-mail him and see if all is well.
I've got belly dance music stuck in my head, and all I want to do right now is dance...

I did some event searching and there really doesn't seem to be a whole lot going on tonight... there's some swing band playing at CAV downtown and I've never actually been there. Maybe that'd be something interesting to do.

Date: 2006-05-12 04:16 pm (UTC)Their drinks are a little pricey, but they have a decent wine and beer selection and there's definitely some fun stuff to do. We could give it a shot. If it sucks, we can always move on to somewhere else.

Date: 2006-05-12 10:49 pm (UTC)I'm not sure if I do a lot of chest during drum solo. I've been trying to do more chest just to mix it up a little, but it was difficult for me too to figure out what to do up there.
Actually I'm not sure what I did at all - but watching that dvd of 8 drum solos the night before might have helped.
I listened to music all day and thought about what I wanted to dance to next. I would love to sign up for a spot at the Middle East once this crazy month is over.
