Got it again. :)

I'm still buzzing from last night's performance. I danced at the Athenian Corner in Lowell, as planned. I did the veil portion of a full routine, and from what people said, I did fairly well. (Of course, I can point to several screw-ups, but overall I'm pleased with how it went.) It was a total BLAST. The band gave me a song I knew, "Bir Demet Yasamen", but I felt like I could have danced to anything that they might have wanted to play when I went out there. Man, having all those people watching me as I danced down the aisle to the stage ROCKED. Everyone else was totally amazing. I always get such a kick out of watching Nara in particular...if I could have half her attitude and presence on stage, I'd be doing well for myself. She could be doing anything dancewise, and the audience would be smiling from ear to ear.

All this has made me look forward to this summer's workshops on karsilima and taxim in particular. Karsh is so fun and funky, and oooo, those twirling skirts! And I'd love to be able to dance to a taxim from the excellent violinist there. I wish I were better at drum solo, though...the sharp torso movements are hard for me. Hips, I can do nice and crisp. My torso always wants to be languid and smooth, though. I must work on that. Maybe I should do some crunches or something, build up my ab strength.

It was great having [livejournal.com profile] pierceheart, [livejournal.com profile] brontosproximo, and [livejournal.com profile] starfire91 there, though [livejournal.com profile] cloakedrose never showed. I'll have to e-mail him and see if all is well.

I've got belly dance music stuck in my head, and all I want to do right now is dance...

Huzzah for a great performance!

So, this evening... are you two coming in on the train? What's your plan? When are you arriving? Do you need a pick up? What time and how would you like to get things started?

We're going to be driving down after I get out of work. I need to arrange with the boy where he'll pick me up. My parents want to have dinner with us (they're ordering in Chinese), so maybe something after-dinner-ish would be good for going out. Any ideas?

Well, we could always see what's shakin' at the Enrico Caruso club!

Failing that, there's always the brewpub standby. =)

I did some event searching and there really doesn't seem to be a whole lot going on tonight... there's some swing band playing at CAV downtown and I've never actually been there. Maybe that'd be something interesting to do.

I think I can say a definite FUCK NO to Enrico Caruso.

Beer is always a good thing to do. The swing thing could possibly be cool. I'll ask the boy what he thinks. It's a pity the weather is teh sux0r. Wandering around Providence would be much more fun in nice weather.

Agreed. And you know my answer when it comes to beer. =) I'm all for the brewpub standby as long as you know we'll be there for a better part of the evening on Saturday, too.

I am well aware of that. :P

Hey, is Dave and Buster's any good?

Ooh! That's an interesting idea. It can be fun. I'm not very fond of their management since I was thrown out of there a few years ago after having spent several thousand dollars (long story), but I think I can belay my grudge temporarily.

Their drinks are a little pricey, but they have a decent wine and beer selection and there's definitely some fun stuff to do. We could give it a shot. If it sucks, we can always move on to somewhere else.

That sounds good. Do they have skee-ball?

Of course! Actually, it's the first thing I thought of when you mentioned D&B. =) All the other things tend to be too expensive, too flashy and/or too short lived. Skee Ball rules! Watching all the attractive Asian people go insane on the DDR machine (which is right next to the Skee Ball machines) is pretty damn fun, too.

Woohoo!!!

You look amazing on your costumes, and your moves are very nice. I look forward to seeing on the stage live some time soon.

(What's karsilima though? *all curious*)

It's a Turkish musical style with a 9/8 time signature. It's typically a "Gypsy" dance, and the dance is usually characterised by using a full circle (or even double circle) skirt as a prop, twirling and shaking it and stuff. Very lively.

Ooh. [livejournal.com profile] nepenthe01 has been trying to convince me to do the karsilima workshop with her, since we enjoyed the skirt dance with Dalia Carella so much. Probably going to be there, too.

You were awesome last night.

I'm not sure if I do a lot of chest during drum solo. I've been trying to do more chest just to mix it up a little, but it was difficult for me too to figure out what to do up there.

Actually I'm not sure what I did at all - but watching that dvd of 8 drum solos the night before might have helped.

I listened to music all day and thought about what I wanted to dance to next. I would love to sign up for a spot at the Middle East once this crazy month is over.
