Hmm. Perhaps I should have some gorgonzola. :P Actually, I've got some fucking DIVINE roquefort at home. I tasted a couple blue cheeses at Whole Foods, and this one was phenomenal. It has a wonderfully complex flavour. Mmm. Want cheesey goodness.

Last night, [livejournal.com profile] pierceheart and I ended up picking Magnolias out of a list of possible restaurants. It's upscale southern food, for anyone who doesn't know. My verdict: quite tasty, but not exceptional. Not too bad on price for a "nice-but-not-TOO-nice" dinner, but not as much of a real FIND as Sanctuary was. That place still gets my vote for "best eclectic, non-country-specific restaurant with entrees averaging under $20". There are lots of good ethnic joints around that aren't too pricey, but if you really want some nicely plated funky fusion-type stuff in a hip atmosphere, it's hard to find stuff that isn't hugely overpriced. Sanctuary's the exception. I still need to try Franklin Cafe, though. And quite possibly Henrietta's Kitchen. I love trying new restaurants.

Anyway, I had duck last night (+2 for the restaurant), but they didn't ask how I wanted it, and served it rather overcooked (-1). Sigh. I need to cook duck sometime. I'm thinking pan-roasted with a port and cherry sauce (probably using a mix of sweet and sour cherries). Damn, planning out cooking adventures is fun. I can while away lots of time doing that. :)

I am way too much of a foodie for my own good.

Several style points go to you for not invoking head cheese.

That stuff's nasty. My dad likes it.

I find it kind of tough to get behind gorgonzola, myself. The only time I can seem to stomach the stuff is when I'm stoned.

Hmm. What didn't you like about Henrietta's Kitchen?

it's been a while.

i didn't like the atmosphere - too bright. i like my restaurants a little dim, unless it's a diner.

i didn't like the ala carte concept of ordering side dishes. it just seemed to add up to way more money than i wanted to spend, much too quickly.

wasn't impressed w/ the food. nothing memorable about it.

if i had spare funds i'd consider trying it again, though there are things on my list before going back there, like Chez Henri and Sandrine's.

Gorgonzola uhmmm... It's very good warm... Za's in Arlington serves an oustanding gorgonzola pizza (pears, rosemary, pecans, misc.). I HIGHLY recommend it. We have been walking down (3 minutes) to Za's and having it for dinner. Just be careful, gorgonzola has the tendency to go bad, if not well handled and refrigerated.

It's roquefort that I have now, but I've wrapped tightly it in fresh plastic wrap and am keeping it in the fridge. Should be fine.

hard to find a place, anyplace, especially up north that has venison, rabbit, and turtle soup. as for duck, thai chile duck with the fat, nice and crispy, is the only way to go :>
