The brass band that's playing the music for MIT's graduation is now playing the Liberty Bell March.

It's the theme song for Monty Python's Flying Circus.

I keep expecting to see a giant foot come out of the sky and squash everyone!

The thing is, the brass band that often plays at graduation is run by Jay Keyser, who used to be the Provost. One time when I was walking by on graduation day, the year the Bill Clinton was speaking (which was also the year of the Monica Lewinsky fiasco), they'd just finished up playing, and he announced, 'That was a little number dedicated to one of our graduation speakers, called "Ain't Misbehavin'."' Then, after the audience's reaction, he quickly exclaimed, 'Honi soit qui mal y pense! I meant David Ho, the cancer researcher! I don't know what you were all thinking!'

First, I just took it in stride, then I did a double-take.

'Honi soit qui mal y pense'? Who talks like that?

The Liberty Bell March was also played at Clinton's first inauguration, which memerath and I cut school to attend. We made splat noises at appropriate moments and added, "And now! For something completely different!"
