evaelisabeth mentioned she was looking for belly dance video recommendations. I gave a shout out to my dance classmates, asking for some on her behalf. One of them replied that she didn't think learning from a video was a good idea, and that lessons would be more helpful. I told her that the person requesting recommendations was living in Ireland, where finding an instructor might not be easy.

My classmate then came up with the brilliant idea of...belly dance/step fusion. Jillina and Michael Flatley, in "Lord of the Belly Dance."

I thought of that while pierceheart and I were still dating--that it'd be a funny thing to do for him, with a long karsilima-type skirt and choli in a tartan, and a fusion of belly and Irish step dance. (Unsurprisingly, I got the idea at Pennsic, where people play fast and loose with fusion dance and costume.)

I never got beyond the idea, though, since the two kinds of dance are practically opposites: belly dance is mostly moving from the hips up, and step dance is mostly moving below the hips. I couldn't put them together.
