This time, Our Heroine met with the woman who's in charge of the initial screening process for the rest of the open positions in MIT's Resource Development department.

Now, I've already chatted with this woman and she's perfectly nice as well. We discussed my resume a bit and what I've been doing for my current boss. Apparently the stage they're at with the other candidate for my position (the one I'm temping in now) is "checking references". She suggested this other position, though, where the work sounds quite similar to what I've been doing, and where my journalism background could come in handy (research, write summaries, etc.) I told her my salary requirement, and she didn't say anything like, "Well, we aren't offering anything in THAT range at this time." Yay! She asked me to e-mail her a copy of my current resume so she could send it on to the woman who's doing the actual hiring for the position. I did so. My fingers are so crossed. The job hasn't even been posted yet (it'll be posted next week), so I am totally getting in on the ground floor here! Sweeeet.
