Ah, this was a lovely weekend, for the most part.

Friday night included time with good friends who made good food. Much good food. Yum. I spent the night at [livejournal.com profile] pierceheart's place. I feel like I don't stay there often enough, and I like it when I get to stay there. It's a change from my place, it's a cute place, and it makes me feel like I belong there a little more.

Saturday morning and afternoon were laid-back. We watched Aliens on DVD. Then we got ready for [livejournal.com profile] whiteboy's birthday party. This leads to the part of the weekend that was not so lovely.

We left my place at about 6:15 or so, Yahoo Maps directions to [livejournal.com profile] dee_cee and [livejournal.com profile] erik_j_meyer's place in hand. We stopped at CVS to get a card. We headed towards our destination. The route suggested by Yahoo Maps led us through Dorchester. The directions were fairly straightforward. They did not, however, take into account the gigantic Caribbean festival that was going on in Dorchester, causing huge amounts of car and foot traffic and blocking off large sections of a major street. CRAP. We found our route blocked, so we tried several different ways of getting around it. It got dark as we sat in traffic. Bumper-to-bumper traffic. In some bad neighborhoods. We did not like this. Those of you who know [livejournal.com profile] pierceheart know how he feels about conditions like that. It took us about an hour and a half or more to finally get OUT of Dorchester. We said "screw it" to the directions, and went through Dedham instead. By the time we got to the party, I had ALMOST started to relax. Some salt and some alcohol helped me get there. Both were much needed.

Fortunately, the party itself was a lot more fun than the trip there. I didn't play poker (because I suck), but I chatted with friends, drank beer, noshed, and introduced some people to the word "nosh". The Manischewitz Extra-Heavy Malaga was broken out at some point (I blame myself for pointing it out), and people tasted it in the manner of Wine Gums ("Oh, this is awful!" "Hey, let me try! Oh yeah, it's nasty!") So...what else? The birthday boy lost some money, [livejournal.com profile] dee_cee got pictures taken of half her head, I ate nummy Jell-O cookies (sounds awful, tastes great), and the cat fell off the couch quite gracefully. It was a good bash.

Sunday was spent in meadmaking, hence the sweetness of the weekend. I (finally) added some more honey to my peach melomel, so hopefully it won't end up tasting like paint thinner. I hope half a cup was a good amount. It seemed like it. I want a dry mead, but not THAT dry. See? I'm getting better at doing stuff that I say I'm going to do! [livejournal.com profile] pierceheart got started on a tupelo honey mead. Yum! We had plans to go to Bomboa in the evening for dinner, since they are changing owners and currently have a 25% off coupon for the rest of the month. Of course, we neglected to check to see whether Bomboa was OPEN on Sundays. They aren't. D'oh. We ended up eating at Grafton Street instead. Very good scallops with shittake risotto and herb salad, but way-too-sweet caipirinhas. I was pleased overall, though. We watched The Brothers Grimm, which was amusing, and went to bed. Oh, I also went on a cleaning rampage in the kitchen that morning. Didn't get half as much done as I needed to, but still...

I'm hoping that the plans for this week get nailed down soon. I may be visiting my parents this weekend. That will be nice. If I do, I'm going to do the "prodigal child comes home with laundry" thing. Hey, I never did it in college! I lived too far away! That will give me more time for other stuff this week. It will probably be a full week, but it should be a good one. :)

I hope it's nothing I have to take too much responsibility for...
