I so need to go grocery shopping. My cupboards are BARE, y'all. I am OUT of COFFEE. That in and of itself is cause for alarm. Gods, I wish I had tonight free, but I don't. Ah well. At least I should be able to manage to grab a few things at the store on my way home and still get where I need to be by 7pm. I hope. I just don't want to face getting up Saturday morning and getting to Arisia by...what, 10am for the first panel I want? with no coffee in my system and nothing healthy for breakfast.

This is such a busy, busy month.

I also still NEED A GODDAMN BRA to wear under my good dress!!! I don't know how I'll get one! The Victoria's Secret in Faneuil Hall didn't have a backless/strapless except those useless adhesive things. I think the Lane Bryant ones would be too big for me--their smallest size is my size in a normal bra, and you usually need to go down one for a strapless. Maybe I can order a couple online tonight when I get home and give them a try, and I'll send back whatever doesn't work. I need to do this so I can get the damn dress tailored.

How long does it usually take for a tailoring job like getting a dress taken in? Hopefully not forever. I don't know how much in advance I'll be able to bring it in. Couple weeks, tops, most likely.

I may see about taking a short vacation late in February. Just a long weekend or something. *sigh*

i can recommend [livejournal.com profile] damselfrog for sewing in general - she makes clothing and does it well. i don't know what her schedule is looking like, but i'm guessing that she'd be a bit less busy than a shop (thus getting it back to you faster).

Hmm. I'm sure she's good, so thanks for the recommendation, but I think I'd rather get this done by someone I can really get PISSY at if they fuck it up by mistake. Wouldn't want to do that to someone who's not doing this as their full-time job at a shop.

*nod* Definitely order the bras online; it'll be less hassle for you. Here's the first batch of results for "backless strapless bra" via Froogle: click here (http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=backless+strapless+bra&hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&safe=active&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=Cyl&sa=X&oi=froogle&ct=title). There ought to be something in there somewhere that will suit you. Perhaps the Fantasie Ivory Rose? :)

Perhaps you can also see about looking for a grocery delivery service, at least for now. There may be some online. (I know there used to be, anyway.)

*hug* Have a good time at Arisia! A friend of mine ([livejournal.com profile] yuki_onna, aka Catherynne Valente) is going to be there, helping to give some of the panels/seminars. You can check out which ones on her most recent posting, if you're interested.

And I hope your birthday's been grand. :)

Fantasie Ivory Rose was the one I was looking at! I will probably order that when I get home tonight, maybe in a couple different sizes just in case. (36D and 36 DD probably...I'm fairly sure I'll want the 36, though I'm often a 38. Strapless bras slip easily.)

I will have a chance to grab at least the bare necessities at the store tonight, fortunately. Apparently those grocery delivery people are like the cable guy: they give you a time frame when you need to be home to accept delivery. Dudes, if I HAD that time, I'd go to the store myself! :P

My birthday was lovely. Hope yours was as well.

As a fan of good tailoring (and someone who's taken stuff back for re-dos when it wasn't all that good), I'd give it at least a week for the initial take-in at anyplace decent, if the dress has princess seams or otherwise straightforward construction.

If January's nuts, it's so worth it to pay extra and have the bras rush-shipped. You're right; you gotta get the bra you will wear with the dress to get it tailored properly, or you'll look like a '57 Chevy with fins.

*nods*

The take-in shouldn't be TOO hard. I don't know a heck of a lot about sewn garment construction, but I discovered last time I took the dress out of the closet that it actually DOES have simple, straight seams down the sides. If they can undo those, do a bit of darting and some general taking-in, it should be fine.

Out of coffee?? No coffee? The horror! The horror! That's even scaring me. (huddling around the programmable Mr. Coffee, clutching the GreenMountain Dark Magic beans...) My child, may you find a hidden stash in the pantry soon!

It's ok--I made it to the store! I have coffee AND creamer in my fridge now!

Sounds crazy, sounds like you'll need a massage when you take your mini-vacation, those are always good for clearing all the crazy energy. Hope everything settles down soon!

*hugs*
