A sleeve of my cardigan, ready to be steam-blocked
You lie there pinned out on my kitchen table,
Looking for all the world like a frog
(or some strange red-wooled mammal)
pinned out, exposed, for dissection.
Instead you'll soon be subjected
To my stubborn will--
more stubborn than the curl of stockinette--
And the heat and steam of the iron.
Will you hold this new shape,
Or revert to your old and rumpled ways?
We'll soon know for sure,
By the number of times I swear during seaming.
