Today I had breakfast with [livejournal.com profile] pierceheart at my place before he hopped a cab for the airport. Then I hung out for a bit and cleaned my desk out. It needed it. Badly. Then I got dressed and took the bus to Arlington, for a Penzeys excursion. For those who haven't yet heard or figured it out yet...yes, this means Penzeys in Arlington is now open on Sundays!

The reason for the excursion was partly because I needed a couple of spices and partly because I had a coupon for a free spice blend (pick one from three kinds). I ended up getting:

* Northwoods Seasoning (free, and I liked it better than the seasoned salt, so I didn't get that)
* Garlic powder (as much as I use real garlic, I still use a lot of this!)
* Brady Street Cheese Sprinkle (on popcorn!)
* Caraway seed (not sure why I wanted this, but I did. German food?)
* Aleppo pepper (since I'm digging on Armenian food lately)
* Chesapeake Bay Seasoning (Hey, I'm dating a boy from Maryland.)
* Chinese 5-spice powder (I want to cook more Chinese stuff. Tonight, even.)

So then I came back to Porter Square and FINALLY bought new reflector pans for my stove. The ones I had before may well have been older than me, and were starting to rust through. Now I feel more pleased about cooking! Next stop was Shaws. This morning, I saw a Kylie Kwong show featuring Chinese stir-fried mussels, and the idea made my mouth water. Lo and behold, Shaws had gorgeous live mussels on sale! It was meant to be, I tell you. That's dinner tonight, then. Not exactly as she did it, but quite similar.

Still not sure if I want to do an all-out Full Moon ritual tonight or just a smaller-scale thingy. That might affect when I start dinner. But [livejournal.com profile] fangirl715 is at a wedding today, so I don't think I have to worry about us getting in each other's way in the kitchen.

I wish I had a better camera, a digital SLR, so I could take really spiffy food-porn quality pics of my culinary accomplishments. But then I'd need to learn how to use a digital SLR. I'll say this, though: if I can ever afford one (and wouldn't rather spend that money elsewhere), at least I have tons of people who could teach me to use it. Not least of all my da. Sweet.

But damn, I'm getting hungry now...

Books, ask Geo about his easy to read book for $20. It's an intro course to SLR photography.

Cool! If I get one, I'll do that.
