A real update now
Apr. 30th, 2007 02:23 pmWell, I've been busy.
I left for the conference on Wednesday evening. We got to the Cliff House in Ogunquit right around sunset, so there was still enough light to appreciate the gorgeous ocean view from my room's balcony. Yeah. Nice place. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant that night, the four of us who drove up together. The next couple of days were full of workshops and presentations and stuff, mostly fairly interesting. It was a jam-packed two days, though. I got home on Friday evening and started preparing food.
pierceheart and I had
ravenstorm27 and
vervain13 over for dinner on Saturday night, so Friday night and Saturday were spent cooking. The menu was as follows, for whoever cares:
Margaritas with Patron Reposado tequila, Grand Marnier, and lime juice
Homemade ceviche of rockfish and avocado, served with dry Riesling
Pork in mole poblano over cilantro lime rice, accompanied by a spinach, bacon, jicama, and hibiscus dressing salad, served with petit syrah
Mangos flambeed with tequila over vanilla ice cream
Port
Cleanup took all morning Sunday. Then we hit the mall and I got some unholey jeans (mine had gotten worn through). Did you know that Gap's "boot cut" is now "classic", and something else is "boot cut"? I was shocked to find that I couldn't fit into the size 6 boot cut jeans (when I'd just taken off a pair of same). But the "classic" ones were fine in that size. Apparently the legs on the new boot cut are slimmer, and so are the hips. Bleah. And what's with this "distressed" shit? I want my new jeans to look new. They'll look old soon enough!
Last night I tried to bake a cheesecake for tonight's potluck. It was going to be a lovely goat cheese cheesecake. But it failed. I followed the recipe exactly, but the thing got dark brown on top and was still pure glop in the middle. I've made good cheesecake before, and this wasn't a good recipe. Meh. Sad. I will have to BUY a cheesecake now. At least I still have the raspberries I macerated in Chambord to top it with. :)
