Random memory and an idea
May. 18th, 2007 05:05 pmI saw a recipe a moment ago that reminded me of something my father used to make for dinner. It was basically a "throw-stuff-together casserole" the first time he made it, with brown rice, spinach, kielbasa, and a few other things. He called it "brown rice, seaweed, and a dirty hot dog" from a line in Bob Dylan's "Maggie's Farm". The name grossed my sister out, but it was tasty, and so very typical of him. My da is a silly man. And a good cook. :)
I think that maybe this year, for Fathers' Day, I will cook for my father. Something special and tasty that my he would really like. I'll buy the groceries, I'll cook the meal, I'll bring the wine or beer. Thing is, I would kind of like to cook something just for him, and not have to worry about whether it's too high in carbs for my mom or whether my sister would think it was gross. I don't think I could do that on Fathers' Day itself if my family spends that all together. Maybe I'll do one of those "coupon" things--"This entitles R.B. to one gourmet meal with his oldest daughter, all foods and drinks to be prepared and supplied by her."
It would be nice to food-and-drink geek with him and try some really interesting flavours. And to show off to the guy who first inspired me to cook.
