Jun. 22nd, 2007 01:34 pm1. If you were going to remake a movie, what would it be and who would you cast in the roles?
Dune. Because both of the versions got something right, but neither got it ALL right, or even close. The plot went out the window in the first one, and the casting made me want to cry in the second. Don't know who I'd cast, though, and don't want to take the time to figure it out.
2. If you could turn a book into a movie, what would it be and who would you cast in the roles?
I think any of Terry Pratchett's "Guards" books would make an excellent movie. I can't help but think that in 10-15 years,
pierceheart would make an awesome Sam Vimes. :) Or maybe Russell Crowe, with short hair, some scruffiness, and a general lack of prettying-up. He's got a good rough style to him and plays commanding-but-not-snooty roles well in the movies. And really, in certain pictures you can see that his face is weathered enough to really work in that role. Think of those scenes in Gladiator where he's looking really worn out and older than usual. He's better looking than Vimes would actually be, naturally, but this IS the movies. Of course, Alan Rickman would have to be Vetinari. Robbie Coltrane might not suck as Sgt. Colon. MacKenzie Crook would probably be an excellent Nobby Nobbs. Captain Carrot is tough. There aren't many actors out there that I've seen who are imposingly tall and muscular with broad shoulders and boyish good looks who are or would look good as redheads. Dash Mihok might have the right looks to pull it off, if he bulked up a bit, got a British accent and worked on a cheerful and wide-eyed innocent look, but I've never seen him act. Claudia Christian with ash-blond hair and a British accent would make a superb Angua, though perhaps a little older than I imagine her, but makeup and lighting could help that. She's got great sarcastic delivery.
3. If you were going to turn a video game into a movie, what would it be? Would it be animated or live-action?
Live-action Tetris, with really dumb and annoying celebrities dressed in coloured jumpsuits and bent to look like the pieces, and dropped onto each other. It would be hysterical.
4. You're going to turn a book into a TV series. What is it? Why would it make a good TV show?
Damn. No idea. I don't like it when people do that, usually, since a book is more of a...closed unit? than a TV series. I'm not good at story arcs and how they'd fit between the media.
5. Do you generally prefer the movie versions or the novel versions of works?
Whichever came first chronologically. Movie versions of novels all too often cheapen them. Novelizations of movies are frequently cheesy as hell. A couple where I love both forms for a variety of reasons are the Lord of the Rings trilogy and A Clockwork Orange.

Hmm...I'd forgotten all about that live-action Tetris idea I had. That IS funny. Or maybe I'm just sick.
