Apparently, last night, the power in my place was off between 11:15 and 12:30. I did not know. I was asleep. I woke up, however, when it went off at about 3:15. I set my phone and Palm alarms since my clock wasn't working. Tossed and turned. Started falling asleep again...when the power came on at 3:50ish. I reset my clock and its alarm and turned off the other two devices. Lay down. Tossed and turned. Didn't even have time to start falling asleep again when the power went off again. I got up, reset the alarms on the phone and the Palm, and went back to bed. Tossed and turned. Started falling asleep again...when the power came on at about 4:20. Reset the clock and its alarm. Left the other two on. Back to bed. Tossed and turned. Fell asleep when it started getting light out. Woke up to three alarms at 6am.

I had an appointment with the gum specialist this morning (who has the very Armenian name of Tannaz Shapurian). She asked me if I'd had my cleaning yet. Nope, that's next week. She said she wanted to scrape the buildup from the back of the affected tooth and see me again in two weeks to reevaluate. It felt like she was scraping off the remainder of my gums. Ow. At least she said the damage wasn't as bad as she'd imagined.

I am grumpy. I want to sleep. Meh.

I have an electric alarm clock that has a battery back-up. even if the power goes out and comes back on while I'm asleep, the alarm will still work.

I can totally understand the I-don't-wanna-be-late paranoia and getting up to set a thousand other alarms, though!

Yeah, I don't have a battery backup in my alarm clock. It's supposed to have one, and I used to have a battery in there years ago, but I found out that it didn't work (even though the battery was fresh), so I haven't put one in there since. I set both of the other two alarms because I sleep with earplugs, and I wasn't sure either alone would be enough to wake me. :)

Oh, ouch. No sleep and gum scraping...that's just pure, unadulterated evil. You deserve something good today. Chocolate. Or yummy fragrant hand lotion. Or really decadent new yarn for a knitting project. Or maybe it's time for the big guns: a trip to the holy place. Sephora.

For what it's worth, I live or die by my just-battery-operated alarm clock. I can even hear it through earplugs, which muffle the air conditioning that sounds like a batallion marching through my parking lot.
