Nice day for a white wedding!
Aug. 20th, 2007 09:41 amActually, a nice weekend for a white wedding AND some fun hiking.
Friday night was the rehearsal for
disownedheidi's wedding. We got through the ceremony and the chants without anyone going into hysterics about problems, so that was awesome. We ate pizza afterwards. Good thing. I was hungry.
Saturday was the wedding itself. Things got started a little late, and there was some craziness with getting the flower crowns started, but everything turned out great. The bride looked gorgeous in her fairy tale princess gown, and the groom looked very happy to be there, which is always a good sign. The ceremony went off without a hitch (except for the getting hitched part). There were various and sundry entertainments afterwards, starting with Morris dancers and then contra dancing. Red Herring Morris was great as always, and the contra dancing was a blast.
pierceheart really enjoyed it too, so we may have to find a good place for beginners to go contra dancing. Dinner was a buffet of lovely and tasty vegetarian food. They even had a whole big bowl of roasted garlic, which with bread is a sufficient meal unto itself, if you ask me. Then,
nepenthe01 danced, and so did another belly dancer, K, who had been seated at our table. They did a great job. There was much dancing by all after that. Later, a fire spinner took the stage. He was truly awesome. The interesting accompaniments of accordion music and simple drumming were much cooler than the usual trancey stuff. Then, eventually, people started leaving. When they were all gone except me,
pierceheart, B, and her boyfriend E, (not counting family), the four of us jumped in the lake for a swim. The water was so much warmer than the air, I could barely believe it. We had fun, even though I scraped my heel on a rock. We got home pretty late, and crashed.
Sunday, we slept in. We ate breakfast, then hit the grocery store, and decided to go for a hike. We planned to go up to this place at Nahant where there are old gun emplacements, but found to our chagrin that it's now closed off to the public. Grr. We went to the Middlesex Fells instead, and had a lovely hike in great weather in the woods.
Now, I'm waiting for my coworker to show up so we can do some work. I have no clue where the heck she is. She'll be doing this stuff alone tomorrow while I'm out, so she'd better come in and get some practice.

Date: 2007-08-20 03:35 pm (UTC)I emailed the community outreach coordinator for the site, and she called me 45 seconds later. Seriously!
It's still open for the public, that's why there is a person sized formal hole in the fence.
However, Nahant has a monopoly on all parking, and that little parking lot there used to be public, no permit needed. It's not anymore. The nearest no permit parking is by the sub shop in the center of town, and it's 30 minutes max. The big beach we go to is an option, pay 3-5 bucks, and walk or bike to the facility.
I can only park ON the facility property if I have business there, BUT, were I to schedule a walk of the site with, say, one of the military history professors, to work on a presentation for their soon to be semi annual open house, that might count.
We'll figure a way to do it, even if we had to ask a Nahant resident friend for a hand.
