Backpack

So, in spite of saying only last night that I didn't want to buy a backpack without being able to see it in real life, hold it, check it out, etc., I just bought one on eBay. I did some research on Jansport.com, and found one that looked nice. I plugged it in to eBay's search box and came up with it in a colour I love, but which wasn't currently there on Jansport's site. Sweet!

So now I'm getting this, but in a bright red. It was less than $30 with shipping included. It seems to retail for $40-$50 elsewhere online. It's about time I did this: I've really worn the backpack pierceheart bought while on leave in '04 to shreds. I should be able to fit everything I need into here, it will look nice and polished, it won't open the buttons on my shirts like my messenger bag strap does, and it looks pretty convenient for organizing the way I like. Yay.

I believe I have that exact model - in black, of course.

It's pretty good on the whole, but I've found it uncomfortable if you try to wear just one of the shoulder straps - which I know isn't the best way to distribute the weight anyway, but I rarely have anything heavier than a laptop and a novel in there. Anyway, the straps tend to slide off my shoulder if I do that.

Ah, I never carry a backpack like that for more than a few seconds as I get something into it or take it out again.

It's an old habit mostly left over from high school - having both straps on feels oddly confining by now. And not in a good way.

Still, this backpack may break me of it.

I broke myself of the habit in college when I realized that you didn't have to wear it on only one shoulder to be "cool" anymore. :)

I have that exact model...in the same color she's getting. Well, we do share some tastes. ;)

It's a good backpack, and I've always liked Jansport and their policy about repairing or replacing their wares. Problem is, I never want to give up my bag for the several weeks I'd have to send it to them for repair, so that one zipper has been broken for a year now.

Yeah, I think I would have a hard time with giving up that bag for repairs...probably have to switch to my knitting bag and a big ol' plastic shopping bag or something for the duration.

Anyway, can't wait until it arrives!
