The Institvte is giving us Monday 12/24 and Monday 12/31 off as extra holidays, since it's kinda dumb to expect people to have a weekend, come in Monday, and then have a Tuesday holiday. So there go two days I won't have to use for vacation days! Rock on! I need to let my mom know about my holiday plans, since I never really got a chance to talk to her this past weekend. (She called while I was arriving at a restaurant for dinner.) I really have to wonder how holiday planning is going to work in the long long term. It's a bit intimidating. I guess it's also time to start planning Yule gifts. Eek.
I am currently eating my shrimp and linguini in marinara with a spoon and a knife, since we are out of forks.

Date: 2007-11-07 07:15 pm (UTC)I worked in Humanities, and I figured at least people like us, the NON ESSENTIAL departments/staff, should be given that off by our respective HR or Dean's Offices. I mean, what, there's suddenly going to be a Shakespeare emergency? But I suppose no department wants to admittedly be seen as "non essential." So we'd switch off each year: one person would (wo)man the office, sit there doing nothing so the office would be open and staffed, and everyone else would take that week off as vacation time. Especially if one had to travel out of state to be with family.
