With the 'rents

I had an interesting discussion of politics with my parents this evening. Mostly large-scale philosophical stuff. I was explaining to them my frustration with preventing tyranny by majority on a national level AND on a state-by-state level, and with preserving individual rights in the face of both of those. You know you're a grownup when your parents not only listen to your ideas about politics, but respect them. :) That's also when you know your parents are pretty cool.

My father and I also had a conversation about local archaeology. We agree that if we won the lottery, we'd probably go back to school for archaeology. Heh. Like father, like daughter. Big time. He's going for a walk on Sunday to "our site" in the Copper Mine Hill area of Cumberland (the one where we prepped and researched a dig for my 8th grade science fair project), and to a couple other sites in the area. I'm kind of envious.

I got to cook on the Viking stove in All-Clad pots. Granted, it was just cranberry sauce, but still...12000 BTU burners get me all excited :)

So the coming-out to the extended family is almost certain to happen tomorrow, at least with one or two people, and they're sure to share stories and gossip after the event anyway, so everyone will eventually know. Oy. I think they'd probably be less confused and more readily accepting if I were coming out as gay instead of poly. But we'll see how it goes. I know my parents have my back, at least.

Well, it's only going to happen at all if there ARE questions about where pierceheart is, and it's not like I'm planning on making a big announcement. If a relative asks me where he is, I'll explain to them about why it's ok that he's spending the holiday with his OSO. I do NOT want to make a big deal of this. I like having some privacy in my private life, which is why I hadn't discussed it before with the aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins.
