Meh.

I think I might be coming down with a cold. I woke up with a sore throat, and I feel more tired than I should. Meh. Ah well, better to get it out of the way now between holidays, than to be sick during the holidays. It does make me somewhat disinclined to go clothes shopping at Garment District during my lunch break as I'd planned, though. I do need new tops. I hit Marshall's, H&M, and (briefly) TJ Maxx last night before dance. I only managed to find one top, a sparkly gunmetal one with that I rather like. These days, it seems like the return on my investment of time and energy in shirt shopping is pretty low. Everything is so long these days! I mean, there are tops out there longer than some dresses I've owned. And it seems like whether they're big and loose or tight, they look horrendous on me. They make my waist go away and make my legs look short and stumpy. Ugh. I have a decent figure. I'd like it to be visible. And it also seems like every top that isn't too long either 1) has buttons, and gaps at the bust or is too big at the waist if it doesn't, or 2) is one of those babydoll style tops that look like maternity tops on anyone bigger than a B cup. I want a normal length, fitted, buttonless, and preferably stretchy. Clearly I must be very out of fashion. I just cannot be such a slave to fashion that I will wear clothes that don't suit me.

Also, I've had no luck with my last couple excursions to GD. But we'll see how I feel later in the day. Oh, also, I'm hungry already. I have an apple I could eat, but my throat isn't enthusiastic about the idea. It wants soup or something like that. Meh, I say.

I thought I was the only one who didn't go in for the maternity top look :-). Meh, indeed.

I've usually had luck at H&M (a.k.a. Mecca for cheap fashionistas)with smooth cotton T's with some stretch and shape. Nice enough to wear under suits, comfy enough to wear with jeans, not dress-length. But you may have to go digging towards the inner sanctum, and each store has different collections.

See, the problem is that I need stuff that is NOT going to be covered with another layer, and will be nice and business-casual looking by itself. H&M had a few button-front blouses that might not have been bad...except for the buttons. If I could get the hook-closure style I got from them before in a smaller size, I'd jump at the chance. But they no longer carry that. Also, their stuff tends to fall apart faster than any other clothing I own.

i have had good luck with plain, non button, nice tops at Old Navy and at Steve and Barry's... including a V neck plum long sleeve...

www.WinterSilks.com has some nice things

also? Catherines plus size store had some gorgeous stuff, and you may be able to get a "0x" and take it in...

I will probably end up checking out Old Navy, though most of what I usually see there is more casual than I would like for work. I don't know of a Steve & Barry's near me. I'll check out the website, but the idiosyncratic nature of women's clothing makes me leery of ordering stuff I haven't tried on. I'd rather not have to do alterations, especially since I can't do them myself.
