So, a lot of you in the Cambridge area have probably already found out that Toscanini's has had their assets seized by the tax man. This is sad, because the ice cream went bye-bye. Apparently, they're having a donation drive to raise some funds to get up and running again. They need to raise $25K and are already halfway there. So, if you want to help them out, check that link out. Yes, it's their fault that they are in this position. The owner admits it very frankly. I haven't yet decided if I'm going to donate or not. I think it's worth saving the place, but at the same time, I'm reluctant to give money to fix someone else's mistake. I thought I'd at least pass along the info, though.

I understand people WANT them to succeed, they want to help someone who was SOOOO good to everyone.

What about his other creditors?
I have seen unverified reports that some of his vendors have been stiffed.

Should we be helping them?
Free market says he should fail.
This is the same guy who lost someday cafe.

as much as it's a landmark and great ice cream, etc, etc, the amount of money they owe certainly wasn't just an accident. i can't really get behind helping them as much as i wanted to when i first heard the news...

Yeah. I'm feeling that too. Someone commenting on the blog post I linked to pointed out that when Pandemonium needed bailing out, they asked their customers for help as soon as they needed it, rather than avoiding paying taxes. Also, they didn't ask for donations, but raised funds by selling tee-shirts. Much better idea, IMNSHO.
