Ok, for the record: I know that "real" women come in ALL shapes and sizes. Also, I'm not really a fan of the word "zaftig". But still.

Why don't you like "zaftig"? It's a Yiddish word with a very positive connotation.

I know, but it is often used in a sort of condescending, PC sort of way. People use it a lot in writing to describe someone who's overweight without using the word "fat", because since they're big, clearly their size has to be brought to the reader's attention more than it would be with an average-sized or smaller person (why? I ask you), but "fat" makes the writer sound mean.

I guess I can see how the manner in which it has been co-opted by general society is rather annoying. In the original (Jewish) context, though, I don't think that condescending aspect existed at all. I guess, like with any word, what really matters is the sincerity behind it.

Yeah, that's exactly it. :)

I was going to say...I have only positive connotations associated with it.

Even the sound is awesome.

To me, it always sounds like, "Oh, you have such a pretty face!"

I DO like the sound of the word, though.

I'd never heard of that word before. I prefer voluptuous, myself. :)
