A request for donations to a good cause
Mar. 15th, 2008 05:50 pm***The filmmaker described here,
stacy, is legit. She is also a rockin' knitter. I gave a few bucks, and I know others have too, but the donations are stagnating. If you have a buck or two, I think this is a worthy place for it to go instead of a cup of coffee. :) If you are so inclined, I'm sure she'd appreciate your help with this project.***
Stacy Pershall, a New York based Super 8 filmmaker, is making a very special cinema verité documentary entitled 'Better the Devil You Know' with cinematographer Annie Waldman.
Their plan is to teach adolescent girls in inpatient psychiatry treatment facilities to shoot Super 8 film illustrating their experiences, and to include the girls' films within their own footage to explore the boundaries between eating disorders, body modification, and self-mutilation.
Kodak has generously provided 300 cartridges of Ektachrome for the project, and Stacy and Annie have been busy buying cameras and equipment on eBay for months. Their aim being to leave each girl with a camera and projector, and set up a small editing station at the hospital.
In order to finalise production they are now asking everyone they know to donate $1 to the cause - thus enabling this unique project to proceed.
