1. Planning rant.

The boy made a date for the night of the 20th, assuming I had something else I was doing. Well, that something else hadn't been planned. So I decided to take the initiative and plan it for that night. Well, neither one of us remembered that the Seder to which we'd been invited was taking place that night. Now, he and she can go to the Seder, but I'm fucked. Damn it all. I was really looking forward to that. I mean, I love what I WILL be doing, but I wish I could have done both. Next year, damn it, I am GOING if I am invited. I only went once, two years ago, and really enjoyed it, and haven't managed to go again.

EDIT: Please note that the reason I cannot go is that having forgotten this was the night of the Seder, I went ahead and made other plans. These plans are important, and not of a social nature, so I can't really casually break them. The reason I am not going has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT [livejournal.com profile] piercheart and [livejournal.com profile] miss_lisa_ma WILL OR MIGHT BE THERE. Nothing.

2. Sexual orientation rant (precipitated by the comments I so often hear on [livejournal.com profile] polyamory.

Being monosexual (straight or gay, sexually attracted to members of only one physical sex) does not mean that you are "attracted to the plumbing." If that were the case, I'd drool over everything with a dick. I do not. Yes, just like you bisexual folks, we too are attracted to people as individuals, and love them for their minds, personalities, etc. We just happen to feel the particular drooly feelings only when those individuals have a certain kind of plumbing. When they don't, we call them friends, and cherish them.

On the positive side: I have a [livejournal.com profile] dahveed76 date this weekend! Yay! And plans are in progress to see [livejournal.com profile] zzbottom next week if we can sort out our tangled schedules. And I had a nice night in with [livejournal.com profile] pierceheart last night. So these things are good. :)

How come you can't come to the Seder too?

Re: So..

Because I've already gone ahead and scheduled the other something-else that he'd assumed I had already planned for that night. Coven stuff. I scheduled it before remembering that was the night of the Seder, because I thought it was just a date-night for them.

Oh, ok. From the wording, it sounded like you couldn't go b/c they were going. Which didn't make sense to me.

Yeah, maybe this is a bit naive, but I don't see why you can't both go. Your invitation is not dependent on being someone else's "date" to the event. It's not like it's much of a date night type thing anyways.

NO you're not the bad guy. My vague explanations just gave everyone a mistaken impression. I will edit for clarity.

Sorry, my only concern was that you might not have realized that I was inviting you directly and so long as you know that you're always invited to my parties then it's all good.

It was clear to you because you knew what the story was. I was being pretty vague, though, to everyone else.

No, it's pretty clear to me because nowhere in the first paragraph is there anything about me and Lisa preventing you from going. You were quite clear that it was a scheduling thing.

OK. :) Glad you know that. You know I'd have been perfectly happy to go, had I been smarter about planning.

It was the one about the surveys. I just think that some of the defenders of a fluid look at gender and sexuality (which, in and of itself, is perfectly fine) were being a bit high-and-mighty, and implying that monosexual people care about the plumbing, while THEY care about the MIND.

Oh, it was someone ranting about an undergrad's use of "primary" and the lack of a pansexual/asexual/nonsexual option in a survey. Because, you know, it's completely unreasonable of people who aren't poly might to not know our terms or who aren't knowledgeable about GLBT issues to not know what about "pansexuals."

I know. I can certainly see the point of preferring that a survey about people's sexual preferences and behaviour take into account the fact that varying ideas of gender will often heavily influence this. But some of the comments were annoying as hell. I'd rather bitch about it here, though, because if I'm reading more into them than was meant (even subconsciously), or if I'm overreacting, I can DO that in my own journal without being a jerk. :)

Rant #2.

Thank you!

I get annoyed by all kinds of assumptions and judgements that people make around sexuality.

Attraction and sexuality are both not black-and-white issues. Anyone who is a complex being--ie, most of us--will have different things/qualities/people they are attracted toward (in the broad sense, not just sexually.)

I get so irritated when people take it back to "A+B=C." It's just not that simple.

Gah.
