Not a rant about it or a defense of it, just my adventures in it today.

On my break, I went to Borders and got a copy of the Hungry Girl cookbook. I also picked up a copy of the nepenthe01-recommended The Bastard of Istanbul.

Then, just a few minutes ago, I upgraded my cell phone from this to this. The old one still works well, but the charger is failing, and the phone is old enough that it's hard to get a charger for it on short notice if it breaks completely, unless I want to pay for overnight shipping with an online order. No, I don't. Anyway, I've had it for quite a long time and am ready for a new one. I don't usually go for flashy, but this phone seems to be of solid quality and got very good reviews even from people who care more about performance than number of wacky features or shininess of the design. Plus, the refurb was cheap! And it's red! (They didn't have the plum available in refurb, alas).

Anything you buy that makes you happy is a good investment, IMO. I don't think you need to defend your decisions to anyone.

There's a difference between buying what you want and being a glassy-eyed, zoned-out consumer. ;)

Yep. I wasn't intending this to be a defense of anything to anyone, just a, "Hey, I have new shiny!" post. :)

I made the "Southwestern Surprise" soup yesterday, and we'll be eating it tonight for dinner. I'll let you know how it is!

Sometimes you need a treat. Or two ;). I indulge myself by going to Barnes and Noble, and it always cheers me up to pick up a stack of new books.

You can always donate the "old" cell phone to a women's shelter or other worthy charity.

Grr. That must be annoying as all hell. I'd just carry a beeper instead, and save the cell phone for when I'm outside work.
