Love it so far. I bought it to make myself feel better when Borders was out of Terry Pratchett's latest, Monstrous Regiment. I was a little skeptical about whether it would hold my interest as much as the movie did, but it's great. I often find that in a book with old-fashioned dialogue (This is set at the turn of the 19th century), it's harder for me to really feel connected with the characters. Here, it's not a problem. I already adore Jack Aubrey, maybe even more than in the movie. He's charismatic, funny, and exuberant. Stephen Maturin is shadowy, sophisticated, and intriguing. And I'm still not too far into the story. It all makes me wanna start singing sea chanties or some such nonsense. :) Beautiful! I'm glad it's a series, so there will be more to read when I'm done. I always love that when I get attached to characters. Yes, I liked being able to drool over Russell Crowe in the movie, but at least there's a picture of him on the cover of the book. Mmm...Russell Crowe. When will that DVD be out??
