So, last night, [livejournal.com profile] pierceheart and I saw a house that I think we'd both have been happy to snap up ASAP. It was big, beautiful, completely renovated, and it had a real yard complete with patios. It was amazing, and we probably could have gotten them to come down to our price range since it was only slightly above that.

Unfortunately, the damn place is in the middle of nowhere. Well, not really, but for a non-driver, it might as well be. Public transportation sucks in that part of Medford near Malden, and there isn't much nearby except houses. Also, [livejournal.com profile] pierceheart said that traffic would be bad around there for driving, too. Crap. It was really a lovely place.

We're giving ourselves a week after [livejournal.com profile] pierceheart comes home to make a decision about putting an offer on something or deciding to rent. Even that is cutting it DAMN close for our timeframe. I just hope the one other place I've seen that I've liked enough to want to put down an offer is still available then, or that we find something else that really works well for us.

That's unfortunate. The location matters as much to your overall happiness in a place as the actual place itself. No sense locking yourself into a home you love in a location you don't.

You mean near my place? The bus isn't too bad here actually. Traffic is miserable but there are ways around it that cut your time way down. Granted it's not as nice as being right next to the T but it's not as bad as say living out in the 'burbs where you HAVE to drive. Where is it located? I wanna see :)

555 Fulton St.

I'd have to walk 12 minutes, take a bus to Malden T station, take the orange line to Sullivan, and then take another bus from Sullivan to work. The nearest real grocery store (as opposed to Foodmaster, which always seems icky) is a mile and a half away. Taking a bus would only make it slightly faster to get there than walking, because I'd still have to walk 12 minutes to get the bus.

Your 12 minute walk is also up hill! You are at the top or the hill, but I can tell you from experience it is a big hill.

Having lived in the neighborhood, which I really like, you really do want to have a car available. If you were renting there for a year, I would say try it, but buying I would not recommend unless you learning to drive is something on your horizons.

Well, I know HOW to drive, technically speaking, and I have a license, but I don't have a car of my own, haven't driven in years, and was never very good at it. I don't have plans to buy a car in the near future, either.
